New Single - Loneliness
Re: New Single - Loneliness
Oh, I'm waiting and hoping for the "Nobody can live without love extended mix". That line is the best of the whole song.
If that doesn't work then I'm hoping for "Dick Shrinking club mix"

Loneliness: very good, I like it. 7,5/10
Party in the Blitz: I can't listen to it. 3/10
Through You: I love the vocals, very The Onzio style. Not keen on mastering, the bass is disturbing. Too long. 6/10

New Single - Loneliness
Woke up this morning with the chorus running through my head … Loneliness is an earworm!
The ‘Nobody can live without love line’ is great but ….
‘When you gonna not say no and make the answer yes?’ is so clunky sounding
Can’t help but think they missed a trick and could have got ‘nonetheless’ into the lyrics somehow

you could say conventional ... and I could claim intentional

The church bell in the album version is such a magical moment, but the single edit is just awful, it cuts off an entire leg of the song. I know they have to do 3 min edits for radio, but it does not make for good art.

For everyone who, just like me, despise UK for abandoning EU and killing interregional music shopping,I recommend recordstore.co.uk where you can buy "Loneliness" CD single with reasonable shipping costs (about 6 EUR).
Originally, I wanted to but it from OS, but the shipping was like 18 pounds which is gross as f...
BTW - the song is lovely, b-side stronger than one might expect. Very promising star of their new era.

I've been around the world for a number of reasons. I've seen it all the change of seasons, and I, my lord, may I say nothing?

Very weirdly, after a few listens yesterday, I keep humming “Love Life” to myself the whole day today!!
A small voice of calm and reason.

Exclusive World Premiere …and then it’s just the one play by BBC R2. Is that it now until official release? I’m just hoping it gets record of the week and more airplay soon.
Btw anyone else getting vibes of ‘Searching for the face…’, ‘Saturday night forever’ or ‘One way street’? lol.
FWIW, I love this one (yes album version is better). I remember very clearly hearing the first play of I don't know what you want but I can't give it any more… and feeling underwhelmed and disappointed.

Re: New Single - Loneliness
My thoughts:
Loneliness
A grower.
Wonderful to have the orchestra back, though it maybe is a tad on the cheesy side
Not too fond of the production of Neil voice. Muddy.
Party in the Blitz
This is actually a blues track - a first for PSB!
Strong lyrics, cool vibe
Poor drum programming (intentionally?)
Excellent vocal performance, and Neil really knows how to produce his own vocals - much better than the A side
Through You
Classic PSB B-side. Giving vibes of Decide, Transparent etc.
It also gives me a sort of Beatles-feel
Heavy on the low end, but I love it. Actually looking forward to the non-extended version, as it goes on a bit to long

I have to admit I don't mind if the song gets airplay or not. The song goes nowhere and the single version is crap..dbaseboy wrote: Thu 01 Feb 2024, 10:59 am Exclusive World Premiere …and then it’s just the one play by BBC R2. I like the song but the chorus is quite easy and forgetable and the best things of the song are the orchestral arrangements that you can appreciate better in the album version. James Ford did a better job than PSB.
Radio 2 listeners are not going to feel specially fatisfied with the song and they are going to still think how good they were.
Many years ago this song had been a good b-side.

The last single of theirs that hit number one in the UK radio airplay chart was "I wouldn't normally do..." and that was 4m 40second long!

I truly do not understand the deriding remarks by ‘fans’ about the fact, 40 years on, we have great quality music from one of the most talented musicians around.
Those 3 words quoted sum it up; it’s not 1987 and never will be again. Yes their earlier works were far superior but that’s because it harks from a time when many of us were captivated and soaking in all the experiences of youth; it was the soundtrack to our lives. It’s not the same anymore I know, but I’m just grateful to having the luxury of hearing new PSB material which makes me happy. And if I’m the only one who thinks this then so be it. I’m fully prepared to accept the loneliness, nonetheless.

Re: New Single - Loneliness
I'm going to go so far as to say that Loneliness is my favourite lead single since Love etc. and possibly the best post-imperial lead single, but ultimate judgement on that to be reserved until we've heard Nonetheless.
To those who are hearing it as b-sidey or trite disco flannel, I urge you to give it a few more spins! It is an infectious grower.
And, it is so lovely to hear Neil's vocals over the top of the track and less 'treated' than we had in the Price era. It adds passion to the song, a more raw emotion that suits the message of the song.
And, in the post-covid era, what better emotion to lead the album with than..........loneliness.

Has this become an integral part of british culture? or is it an obscure reference by Neil?
