U-mix
U-mix
Can anyone remember which single had a "U-mix" version - basically four stems that allowed you to sort of mix the track on a computer yourself? Probably Windows 95 days. And did anyone have a go?
And at the end/ Your funny Uncle staring / At all your friends / With military bearing

Re: U-mix
Yeah, Minimal. My one and only attempt to "remix" a PSB song.
I recorded all the parts from UMyx into GarageBand and then stuck it all back together to create it. I couldn't find a way to nicely segue the orchestral part I wanted at the start into the actual beat of the song so I added a single repeated note to blend them...the only original piece of the song "played" by me!
It's up on YouTube if you search the darkest murkiest depths. And sadly in mono. Stereo was a bit beyond my capabilities.

Re: U-mix
What a coincidence to hear this CD single mentioned just now: On Wednesday night I pulled it out so I could reimport it at a higher bitrate than I originally did nineteen(!) years ago, because the Tocadisco/Space remix opens the Pride running set I made myself this month. ("More than a dream" pops up halfway through the set as well.)

Great question old soak! I forgot about that!
Was there any other “unusual” features on some cds “of the time” I remember a samples cd around 1999 that had various samples, one was the suburbia dog barking!

Re: U-mix
There was also a site where one could remix Did You See Me Coming at one point. That was great fun. One could turn up Johnny Marr's guitar obligato...

Re: U-mix
There were some nice U-Myx songs for many artists at that time. Just a few months ago I was on a quest to compile many of them to play mixing the stems. Most of them still work fine on their corresponding U-myx software on moden computers, but sadly MINIMAL plays with interruptions, like if it were corrupted, or something not working fine anymore...(It seems that it uses one of the first versions on the sftware, and only plays on it, not on later versions).
