Japanese Megajackets / Forever Young 2025 reissues

#1 Post by andmaste »

In Japan, next June, 11 PSB albums will be reissued for the special "Forever Young 2025" series.
From Please to Elysium, with special limited editions including the "megajackets", i.e. the 24x24 cm cardboard reproduction of the covers.

Sorry, I don't "get" this Megajacket thing. Is this on vinyl or CD (or both)? Where's the value add?

Anyone got a photo of a megajacket in the wild doing what it does?

It's like the American longboxes back in the 80s and 90s, but then Japanese and square shaped

Those long boxes were awful. I mean, from a marketing perspective, lovely, but for practicalities sake a total storage nightmare.

Only CD reissues.

This is the "magajacket" for a Lady Gaga CD reissue:

Thanks - so a storage nightmare! You'd just have to separately put these in a vinyl sleeve. Nice if you plan to frame and put on your wall.

Added value...

Musically: nothing
Collectable: nice items

On Ebay the "magajackets" CDs are sold at high prices, since they are pre-sale/promo items.

Do we know a cost on these yet?

Cheekily, I'm just wondering about doing the math here and whether a collector looking at these seriously (with no added musical value) would now reconsider buy a tea-set instead?

Are these literally just 10" (ish) prints of the album covers, rather than actual covers for the CDs? In which case they're literally smaller than the corresponding LP covers (though if they're just blown up versions of the CD covers, some will be different), so I can't imagine them actually looking that good?

I have an Ariana Grande one! They're rather good, you get a 10"-vinyl-sized CD holder and a larger booklet of the same size. Not sure if this will be going on here too.

Oh that's cute, the disc does actually live inside it? That's a bit better then. Not for me I don't think but I can see the appeal if you're not into vinyl and want the bigger covers.

These look good, is there a pre order available?

OK, that's starting to make more sense. Essentially a CD in vinyl packaging?!

Agree, not for me either, but a neat idea for the non-vinyl collector.

If I saw one in the flesh though I could be sorely tempted I suspect.
