NOW That’s What I Call Christmas

#1 Post by VRIDD »

Two PSB songs on the next NOW That’s What I Call Christmas - 4CD edition, released on 1 November 2024:
  • It Doesn’t Often Snow At Christmas
  • Always On My Mind
https://superdeluxeedition.com/news/now ... ristmas-3/

I wonder which version is It Doesn’t Often Snow At Christmas.

They should have started CD3 with:

1. Always on my Mind
2. Fairytale of New York

A nice meta-joke there and a missed opportunity!

Oh my, I see they've broken out the ancient hymns again (Merry Xmas Everybody, I Wish It Could Be Xmas Every Day, etc). Wombling Merry Xmas? Heck YES, get in my stocking NOW!

I realize I'm relatively new to this scene but isn't IDOSAC a little obscure for a compilation like this? Didn't it only get a very limited release?

The original 1997 version was limited to just their fanclub, although it was played on Radio 1 and performed live on TFI Friday in the UK.

Then a new version was on their Christmas EP in 2009 which to date has been their final UK top-40 single chart entry.

The 1997 version was first officially released on Elton John's Christmas Party in 2005

Nah nah, It Doesn't Often trends quite highly around Christmas time.
I believe it was in PSB's top 5 most streamed songs for several weeks. I even heard it myself while out shopping.
It's a mainstream hit, hence the inclusion on Smash.

It's definitely gained some traction over the years during the holiday season. I always advocate for it when people are looking for something a bit different to the usual Christmas fayre.

My mum, who usually prefers their slower tracks, loves IDOS.....

For me, I've always thought it sounded a bit, 'this is what people think all PSB songs sound like', sounding.

NT loves it too though, so what do I know !

October and people are already talking about the Festival of Consumerism. Soon that f'in word will be very third word on the TV and radio. The same few songs will be in the charts such as they are courtesy of the streaming brain dead. The whole lot can pinkle off, shittiest con job of the year. Anything 'Now' can f off too, lowest common denominator pap.
And at the end/ Your funny Uncle staring / At all your friends / With military bearing
