It's a song from James Carr that is going to be covered by PSB: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HC3AXQ8dPJM
It's easy to find on the lyrics typical references from songs of PSB (dark streets, shadows, hidden love affairs). It's like coming back to the basis of "West End Girls".
At the dark end of the street
That's where we always meet
Hiding in shadows where we don't belong
Living in darkness to hide our wrong
You and me
At the dark end
Of the street
You and me
I know time is gonna take its toll
We have to pay for the love we stole
It's a sin, and we know it's wrong
Oh, but our love keeps coming on strong
Steal away
To the dark end
Of the street
They're gonna find us
They're gonna find us
They're gonna find us, Lord, someday
You and me
At the dark end
Of the street
You and me
And when the daylight hours roll 'round
And by chance we're both downtown
If we should meet, just walk on by
Oh, darling, please, don't cry
Tonight, we'll meet
At the dark end
Of the street
“The dark end of the street”
Re: “The dark end of the street”
Coincidentally on an album that also featured a cover version of 'Always On My Mind'.
Re: “The dark end of the street”
That's one crappy, boring song. But I guess the lyrics have some connotations for some but it's still quite generic and as I said.. sooooooo boooooooring.

The dark end of the street was co-written by Dann Penn who also co-wrote ''I'm you puppet'' which arguably inspired Neil's spoken lines in Rent.
I'm your puppet
