The other number ones of PSB

#1 Post by Nickname »

We know PSB have 4 song that reached #1 in UK but maybe we don't know anything about some songs from PSB that didn't get the top of the charts in UK but they got the top in other countries.

For example, did you know "Suburbia" was #1 in Poland and Belgium or "What have I done to deserve this?" in Ireland or "Go West" in Germany and Ireland?. Probably yes, just because it is on Wikipedia.

But "Domino Dancing" was Number 1 in Spain and the most surprising "Can you forgive her?" was Number 1 in Israel.

"I'm not Scared" also was Number 1 in Italy with Eight Wonder.

Do you know about more songs from PSB that never were #1 in UK but they were on another official singles chart of the planet?

“Dancing star” made it to #1 on the Official UK Singles Chart, increasing their run of #1 hits to five. It must have been mentioned on this forum somewhere, but honestly I haven’t seen any discussion of it. Pretty astonishing over 40 years in to have a new overall #1 and not to top the charts with a nostalgia track:

Unfortunately this is a different chart. It’s the Official UK Singles Sales Chart, which only includes physical sales. When it comes to the Official UK Singles Chart - which also includes downloads and streaming data - Dancing star is nowhere to be seen, and Pet Shop Boys’ last UK chart hit remains Thursday:

Yeah. This chart is kinda pointless. If you sell 100 physical copies you’re basically guaranteed a top ten placing.
is is and isnt isnt

That's true.

I was talking about the main chart (official singles chart).

Left to my Own Devices was the Christmas No1 on the Scottish Charts, Xmas 1988.

Unfortunately I never found evidence of it, but I'm sure I remember this being announced on Radio Clyde.
1991-Glasgow, 1999-Glasgow, 2002-Edinburgh, 2006-Newcastle, 2007-Manchester, 2009-Manchester, 2009-Glasgow, 2014-Glasgow, 2016-London, 2017-Glasgow, 2022-Glasgow, 2023-Aberdeen, 2024-Glasgow

Chat GPT tells me it was Cliff Richard with 'Mistletoe & Wine' in the Scottish singles chart. Probably likely as 'Left To My Own Devices' came out on 14 November. Perhaps it was Radio Clyde's own countdown of their favourite songs from that year?

Hold up, I thought Chris awarded that title to The Sound Of The Atom Splitting.

Retro. :)
