Nonetheless - Expanded Edition
Re: Nonetheless - Expanded Edition
For the US, I ordered through importcds.com - 3LP at 59.43 and 2CD at 17.00
Re: Nonetheless - Expanded Edition
Yes, mine is still showing as an order at the lower price, so fingers crossed it gets honoured.
I've a worry they are going to send me a copy of cd, and I'll end up paying twice the price for it !
Re: Nonetheless - Expanded Edition
It will be available on Amazon. I find the official store chaotic. Whenever I have asked for something, in addition to the high prices of shipments, I have always had to pay customs, although months later it has been refunded. Is this still happening?. By the way, they could have already included Clean Air Hybrid Electric Bus.
I hope they release another single and include it.
I think this album is breaking records in versions and money spent. It's a fortune in versions.

Yeah

A lot of the pre-Hague demos of Very (and Relentless) done at Fabdens are "out there"...telys wrote: ↑Wed 11 Sep 2024, 8:13 pmIt would be great to get the Very songs before they were given to Stephen Hague or Behaviour - The Munich mixes, before the took everything and reworked/mixed the songs in London.Danimal wrote: ↑Wed 11 Sep 2024, 1:59 amOften not, but occasionally they do, as with “Domino dancing”, “Don Juan”, and “Vocal.” In this case I feel having all of the demos is most appropriate because they said James Ford greatly simplified the arrangements. Of course he also replaced all of the soft-synth programming with analog electronics and added strings and brass. I think having all of the demos will allow one to hear what the album would have likely sounded like had PSB self-produced it vs. pulling Ford in. Having a producer on a PSB album doesn’t always make a huge difference, but in the case of some like Lewis Martinee, Stuart Price (at least on “Electric”) and James Ford I think the producer makes a big difference sonically. In this instance it’s getting a second completely different take on the album. I’m quite excited to hear this incredible album again for the first time.Patrick Bateman wrote: ↑Tue 10 Sep 2024, 4:59 pm Do their demos ever change that much? Vocal is an outlier but generally they are such good songwriters that the demos are not that dissimilar to the final versions.
Re: Nonetheless - Expanded Edition
Yes but those are demoes not the finished product which they handed over to Hague to polish.

Re: Nonetheless Expanded Edition
Yes, and I think that is why when Neil heard the final mix of the album he was originally a little underwhelmed about the album.

Nothing new. Just the front cover split in 6. Making it impossible to display in a convenient way.
Lazy design.
And where is supposed to be housed the central disc ? In the inner part of the gatefold sleeve ?
I have two OMD releases like that. Never been able to successfully put the record back in it once removed.

Maybe? The thing they give to a producer is generally called a "demo"?telys wrote: ↑Sun 22 Sep 2024, 10:28 amDemoes yes but probably not what they gave to Hague to polish.jasonjohn wrote: ↑Sun 22 Sep 2024, 8:31 amAm I missing any?

Anyway I'm just wondering if there are any more out there I've missed hearing

Hague is credited with "additional production " . That's why I suspect what they handed over was more of a finished product than merely demoes, think of DJ Culture and Disappointed as a reference where Hague did extra work for the 7" versionsjasonjohn wrote: ↑Mon 23 Sep 2024, 3:26 amMaybe? From the Further Listening booklet:telys wrote:Hague is credited with "additional production " . That's why I suspect what they handed over was more of a finished product than merely demoes, think of DJ Culture and Disappointed as a reference where Hague did extra work for the 7" versions
“In those days Chris had a studio in an outhouse at his home in Hertfordshire. The Pet Shop Boys recorded the basic tracks for Very there, working with the programmer Pete Gleadall who had previously programmed their tours, then they moved to Sarm West to complete recording, before handing the tracks over to Stephen Hague for additional production and mixing at RAK studios. "It's great at a certain point to give it someone else," says Neil. However, this was the first Pet Shop Boys album they would primarily produce themselves. "We didn't feel experienced enough before," Neil explains. "Although we had produced other people," Chris says, "it's easier producing someone other than yourself."”
Woof.

Re: Nonetheless - Expanded Edition
Ah good points. Very does sound quite stripped, in a pleasant way. And many of the b-sides sound like they could immediately slot right in (shameless, decadence, headmaster, too many)
I kinda wish Super had more the PSB home studio vibe, it would of suited that album well.
