Real or fake? Good Q. It does sound like them back in the early days. Believe they wrote a song called ‘Don’t ask me’ so potentially is real. Why keep fast forwarding? To stop someone ripping it and placing it on social media in its entirety. B-side is the unreleased Sarm West version. Not sure of the connection as don’t think IGEYGET was ever muted as a single, and SW mix too early to be a track for Introspective.

I think it's a fake.
Listening carefully to the vocal, you can notice a vibrato at the end of almost every held note. Neil doesn't have a vibrato, his long notes usually sound more like a "flatline".
I think someone sung on these tracks with their natural vibrato (and rather badly, I have to say), and then applied an AI model of Neil's vocal imprint on their recording. So Neil's timbre is there but not the way he actually performs, let alone his usual pitch accuracy.

Hmm, there's some oddness on the vocal that doesn't ring true. I'm going with fake, and probably AI.
If it's real, probably a good thing it hasn't seen the light of day. It's not that good.

Probably AI but it sounds nice!
A blues would be in B flat, pain defining wisdom,
but the soul is in the high hat, programmed in the system.

Yeah the vocal is definitely quite off. You can tell instantly it sounds like someone else singing with Neil's vocal AI'd to match.
It's interesting they even did a fake I Get Excited demo. The vibrato sounds off like MisterBlue says.

Interesting track! The fast-forwarding might be a stylistic choice or a way to highlight specific parts. It’s hard to say if it’s real or fake just from the video. Have you checked out any official sources for confirmation?

I made the same observation a couple of weeks ago in another post on this topic (I think in the Youtube video section). That vibrato is not, and never was, something Neil does... so it's highly suspicious...MisterBlue wrote: ↑Sun 04 Aug 2024, 10:54 am I think it's a fake.

This is not my signature.
Re: Pet shop boys “new” track - Don’t Ask Me Why?
The cassette used carries a Samsung logo that was introduced in 1993, but it might of course be a later copy. That said, that does not sound as Neil. The drum sounds used hints that IF this demo would be real it would probably have been recorded around 1987-1988, while the arrangement sounds s’more like 1984. Also, let’s say that Neil would have experimented with vibrato… no way he would do that in 1988. So no, this does not make sense. Fake.

Greetings,
It poses some interesting questions. How long will it be until people on this forum are sharing their own AI-created "Pet Shop Boys albums" with one another?
