What PSB track (or part of a PSB track) moves you emotionally? (Crying, goosebumps, etc.)

Even though it’s an aggressive dance/electro track, Fugitive (original extended mix from Richard X) gets me emotional!

Being Boring. It highlights that life is about being alone with your own thoughts just as much as it is about movement and action. I find this increasingly so the older I get.

Greetings,
The only track that's hit me in that way was King Of Rome after too many beers.
Cheers,
Retro.

A great thread. Where do I start? There are so many songs that bookmark the years.
Being Boring - like visiting an old friend where we catch up like it was yesterday, whenever I come back to this it poignancy gets me.
Invisible - mostly reflective, I'm invisible.
The secret of happiness - I had a tearful moment of content with this.
Breathing Space - "When your heart escapes your head and waits in the growing queue that life creates" I gotta get out - reminds me to step out and take time.
Legacy - yes, yes I know most hate it. It's one of those songs that, on the first note, makes me feel grand, worldly, and kind of resolved. I never tire of this at the right time.
King of Rome - pure melancholy and sadness. "Baby come back to me"
Indefinite leave to remain - having been through the UK indefinite leave to remain process, this is emotional, about belonging and place. But "you're my nation" wasn't the UK and now speaks to identity and place in New Zealand.
I could go on

I get goosebumps from Legacy, especially 'there's a cruiser waiting at Scapa Flow..' bit. I think it's the longing for escape and the horns kicking in in the background that gives it such a powerful edge emotionally for me.Debussy wrote: ↑Fri 02 Aug 2024, 8:46 am A great thread. Why am I dancing when I'm so alone? I can feel tears in my eyes. Are they really justified?

The video for Vocal makes me cry a bit. Longing back to happier times of youth and rave music.

I love that section, both the lyrics (my favourite lyric section of all their songs, I think) and the music, especially in this live version where the harmonies are more pronounced:

This must be the place I waited years to leave, To face the truth, The lost room and Rent.
ICHH performed live at the RAH I had to choke back tears. And hearing A new bohemia live was just sublime.

I'm not scared (if I was you)
This must be the place (intro) on extended mix
The end of the world (outro)
How can you expect to be taken seriously (outro) performance version
Forever in love (orchestra hits)
The man who has everything (what do you want?)
Delusions of grandeur (second verse)
For your own good (intro)
Vampires (CTH cast version)
I get along (outro)
Birthday Boy (outro)
Integral (final chorus) perfect immaculate mix
Invisible
Leaving happy sad mix
Sad robot world
Decide (outro)
At rock bottom (final chorus and outro)
Love is the law
Thanks to Geowayne's complete song list. A very useful prompt. http://www.geowayne.com/newDesign/extras/chronology.htm

Lots of good examples here but one I've not seen mentioned is the middle section and final verse of Footsteps - the desperation in the delivery of "I'm longing to see you, I want you, I need you", then the dramatic key change into the verse, the sitar melody, and finally the pained resignation in "like a child who feels afraid" - it's just a series of hammer blows. This song is the highlight of the album for me and I'm always surprised that so many people seem to dislike it. In particular that unexpected instrumental opening to verse 3 (I always figured the absent vocal represented the absent person) just ruins me.
I must disengage your recreational music.

Never cried at a PSB track, but weirdly, ‘In His Imagination’ got me emotionally.
Invisible was another one, as I can totally appreciate the theme of being middle aged and ‘invisible’.

Just for the sake of it, make sure you're always frowning.
It shows the world that you've got substance and depth.

All these tracks could make up a compilation album, or more practically a playlist… Emotionally. Pet Shop Boys.

I was thinking of starting a similar thread recently - which bits of PSB songs are musically powerful, transcendent, have magical chord changes, etc. etc.
I still find the middle eight/bridge of Memory of the future absolutely stunning but of course there are many others.

Didn't Chris once say he had a compilation of sad songs/songs that made him cry, that he would to listen to while wallowing in the bath? Proper order!
