No, it is an album I just cannot get into at all, my least favourite PSB album by a country mile.

I agree.
Absolutely. It's an incredibly sweet track, and the production is rich, Neils vocals so warm.

Although Chris has said he had nothing to do with the track, but he may of been understating things.

He’s got a co-write credit, so he must have turned up at some point!

Yeah exactly, but I wonder if that's just a blanket album credit?

I'm just repeating what he said in an interview, can't remember what one though.

In any case, I agree he would of been understating his work as he generally does.

I dont have any worst...Its all best - I deeply respect the art they (Chris and Neil) create and the efforts they put into the work.

It all depends on my mood and season etc. I do have PSB favorits but even those can have a very long break while I explore new musical territory.

Sometimes I have weird playlist - right now I listen to the Finish 2023 Eurovision song "Cha Cha Cha" by Käärijä (in Finnish) its brilliant production. mixed with Cicero "weekender" and then I go for Langi Seli og Skuggarnir "OK" - last in Icelandic. And then back to a few PSB songs. Oh Ludovico Einaudi "Elements" is brilliant as well.. Just saying it all depends on mood and feelings and season.

One thing for sure -Pet Shop Boys always shows up in my playlist somehow.

By the way, does anyone know how many songs the boys have released? I am guessing it must be around 320? That would mean I am not keen on just 6 percent of their work.
Nobody will ever topple the boys from being my favourite source of music, anyone else I like doesn’t come close to that level of perfection!

I hope they'll search for the 20 most hated tracks in this topic and perform an one-off-concert with these. I would actually go there, not only for I'd like to see "What Keeps Mankind Alive" as an encore.
A blues would be in B flat, pain defining wisdom,
but the soul is in the high hat, programmed in the system.

What do you like about it?
It's a great story and the song is in three movements, three very different parts combined into one, a great work of art.
I like that, hearing "I made my excuses and left" in three movements. It's always an affecting moment for me when the violin arrives at the end of the middle part to unfurl the deceptively simple melody we last heard in the opening, via Chris's Kermit-y voice singing into his phone recorder, "I'm all alone again. I'm all alone". It feels notable to me that arguably the most emotionally naked lines in their catalog are uttered by Chris. Those ones in "Excuses" pair up for me with the ones in "We came from outer space": "Don't leave me. Don't leave me. Don't leave me. I love you". That heartbreaking plea in the midst of such a daffy song always chokes me up.

As for "Breathing space", it is indeed another lovely song. I always question that it didn't make the cut on my Elixir pairing of Elysium and Electric, but "Give it a go" made a better fit in the overall feel; between those two songs, I believe "Breathing space" has the edge for me. Listening to it again, it feels like a precursor to "Into thin air". Neil is always singing about escapes, though, of course.
