Making music can be done from home and touring can be less extensive, but there's so much money to be made and most artists are used to the lifestyle of traveling, meeting many people etc. Nowadays it's more likely that band members die or fall seriously ill while active, but bands may even continue in one form or another when key members (or even singers) have passed away. E.g. Eagles, ACDC, Queen, Pink Floyd, and recently Van Halen, Pulp, Depeche Mode, De La Soul etc.

Hard to think that PSB will continue after one of them stops for whatever reason, but 'the other one' and the heirs that will then be the new copyright owners will want to keep the legacy alive. Cf. Prince who was all about being very in control about his output, but after he passed a flood of stuff from his vaults came out officially and a lot of 'FM' bootleg CDs you can buy at amazon.

And in the end all of these bands will be forgotten if there are no fans left anymore. But that's life.

But on topic: I do not think they will retire soon. They are still one of the most active legacy acts (in terms of new releases, tours and side projects). The Kraftwerk comparison is a joke of course; their last album is 20 years old, and even that was a reworking of a song that was at the time also 20 years old! Electric Café is their last album of entirely new music, which was released almost 40 years ago. SInce, Pet Shop Boys had their whole career :D
Well, the TdF album was entirely new. Only the title track was a remix of the original and that had never appeared on an album so it's a full album fair and square, their only one of new material since 1986. I'm pretty sure PSB had more than one since then...

For example: Introspective.

A song like LTOMOD had dance, disco, orchestral, opera, rap, pop, etc.
I want a dong: electonic, house, funky
Domino Dancing: electronic, dance
I'm not Scared: electro pop
Alway on my Mind: gothic, dance
It's Alright: anthemic, dance

And the songs are not as good as they were at that time
I always felt I Want a Dong to be the point at which their songs became overtly gay.

or maybe you've just been in denial from day one? Later Tonight set the subject for every longing track on their first album.

At some point maybe the´ll be considering a retirement. if everything goes fine and they´re in control of the situation..first from live gigs..later for recording new releases..but I don´t think that will be a surprising retirement after just "one more" album.
We´ll know when a tour is the "last one". We´ll know when an album is the "last one". And it´ll be something special, not just another one on the list...
At this point I´ll be very surprised if they dont have something already planned about that. Even facing an emergency situation.
The PSB career path was always too planned to leave something so important to chance.

They’ve always denied any kind of forward planning or career path at all and I tend to believe them. I appreciate their presentation makes everything look preordained but I think the reality is they move from project to project pretty organically.

I remember the days when people here asked if Chris was gay.

Bohemians talking about "her sexual affair" with Neil while he was talking on an interview how many times he felt harassed by women.

Happy days!

What on earth has this got to do with the subject of PSB retiring..?
