Was it worth it?

#1 Post by ype »

Was it worth it is one of my favorourite songs, but a lot of fans and the PSB themselves don't seem to hold in high regard.
I think it's strange they released only one cd-single / 12" at the time. Maybe this hurt Was it worth it's chart position. All singles from Behaviour and DJ Culture already got the two cd treatment. I wonder if at some point a second version was planned and what might have been on it.

I LOVE this song…and the extended mix is one of my favourites.
Not sure the luck of second cd hurt the chart position though…the second DJ Culture CD came way after (and got itself an entry just in the top 40 in its own right). If I recall at the time there was a limit on the number of formats you could have for a chart eligible single. Was it worth it? got a 7”,12” and CD I think. I think others at the time with two CDs sacrificed either the 7” or 12”. I think that’s why they released DJ Culturemix as a separate single, to make a point.

I talked about this track on one occasion or another. I bloody love "Was It Worth It"! It's a shame how underrated it is. But the release date was a bit unlucky. Aditionally, it was on "Discography" already. Maybe they should've released it earlier (e. g. instead of "DJ Culture"). It should have been performed more often, too.

The 7", the 12", the dub – all are brilliant! It was the first single I was keen on having all vinyl formats. (and I achieved it) :)
A blues would be in B flat, pain defining wisdom,
but the soul is in the high hat, programmed in the system.

I also love Was It Worth It?
Don’t forget the b-side - Miserablism. One of their best in my humble opinion.
Just for the sake of it, make sure you're always frowning. :|
It shows the world that you've got substance and depth.

Only Jealousy had a second CD single in the UK.(excluding DJ Culturemix) Wonder if it counted towards sales. I think it was in lieu of a remix 12”, as all the other Behaviour singles had had
Still waiting to hear the Adam Freeland, Manhattan Clique and Axwell mixes of Integral.

But So hard had the KLF remix single, Being boring had Being remixed (or was that Europe only?) and Streets had the Morales remix single. All available as 12" too.

In the UK,

So Hard
5 formats : 7"/MC/CD/12"/12" remix

Being Boring
5 formats : 7"/MC/CD/12"/12" remix

Streets
5 formats : 7"/MC/CD/12"/12" remix

Jealousy
5 formats : 7"/MC/CD1/CD2/12"

Then the rulings must have changed:

DJ Culture
4 formats : 7"/MC/CD/12"

Hence the DJ Culturemix

3 formats : MC/CD/12"

So Was it worth it? just had the standard 4 formats, and only had remixes done to fit them and thus no need for a separate release.

7"/MC/CD/12"

The other CD Maxis (So Hard Morales, So Hard KLF, Being Remixed, Streets Remix) were only issued in Europe (not UK) and the special 12" of Jealousy

Thanks for clarifying! And then by the time of Can you forgive her? the rules had probably changed again?

Can You Forgive Her? had 4 formats at time of issue:

7"/MC/CD1/CD2 - The 12" was issued as a standalone release later

Go West had 4 formats

7"/MC/CD/12"

I Wouldnt Normally Do... had 4 formats at time of issue

7"/MC/CD1/CD2 - Though either the 12"singles were issued later or not chart eligible

Liberation had 4 formats - The double 12" was issued later

7"/MC/CD1/CD2

Yesterday WIWM had 4 formats - a 7" was not issued.

MC/CD1/CD2/12"

I love this song. Behaviour was laid back for me and I didn't like DJ Culture at all. This was such a fun up-tempo track, it did keep me interested in the band (plus some of the amazing b-sides of the Behaviour era).

I bought the US CD single (which was sold at a record store which doesn't exist anymore :-( ) which has the brilliant Moby remix of Miserablism. For a long time this was the only version of the song I knew. Also Overture to Performance was great to have on CD.

If it were released post Dj Culture but PRE Discography then I think it might have dragged itself up to the giddy heights of Number 11

I wouldn't normally do this kind of thing 12” singles were released later. I remember being surprised seeing them in HMV after having bought all other formats a few weeks prior.
Still waiting to hear the Adam Freeland, Manhattan Clique and Axwell mixes of Integral.

Love that mix had it on the 12” but was great to get it on CD

It was fun not knowing about foreign releases and their track listings. I was thrilled to discover the US Maxi of I don't know what you want but I can't give it any more in Sister Ray complete with various new mixes.

Very nice to see some love for Was it worth it. I agree about not knowing about (foreign) releases. The time I went to my record store and found the I wouldn't normally do this kind of thing cd-single in the bubble wallet, I was so thrilled I nearly died and went to heaven.

I like someone comment about this song "A transition song from their 80s to their 90s sound."
