Rock n roll Hall of Fame

#1 Post by Palpatine »

With Duran Duran and especially Eurythmics being inducted into the Rock n roll Hall of Fame do you think there's any chance PSB will get inducted in the future?

I mean, out of Pat Benatar, Eurythmics, Duran Duran, Carly Simon, Lionel Richie and Dolly Parton how many are Rock n Roll?

I've wondered before that PSB should be in there, but it would be the ultimate irony if they were inducted, especially after How Can You Expect To Be Taken Seriously.. Also, would they accept..?

"How I learned to hate rock ‘n’ roll
Someone states the obvious
Someone sneers at all you love
Someone preaches ugly manners
excluding some, including me

This is how I learned to hate rock ‘n’ roll
This is how I learned to hate rock ‘n’ roll

All feelings blunted, all passion spent
Everybody does what everybody does
All the broken promises
to recreate a status quo

This is how I learned to hate rock ‘n’ roll
This is how I learned to hate rock ‘n’ roll"

Wikipedia says PSB has sold 100 million records worldwide and Eurythmics have sold 75 million. Is that accurate?

Neil mentioned that figure was wrong years ago when a journalist brought it up. I think there was a bit of good nature joking to the interviewer about them having done their research on Wikipedia. Having said that that 100m figure used to be quoted for albums, perhaps as it now says records (ie including singles) it may be nearer the truth
Still waiting to hear the Adam Freeland, Manhattan Clique and Axwell mixes of Integral.

Of course we all know they’ve already been offered a place already … this is what happened

Neil : What do you say Chris … should we accept?

Chris :
you could say conventional ... and I could claim intentional

Greetings,

It's always seemed very America-centric to me... which obviously works to their disadvantage because from the U.S. perspective they've barely existed since Domino Dancing.

Retro. :)

british bands then.

I don't think they'd accept if it was offered to them! But they've changed a lot of their thoughts on things over the years, so who knows???? 😏🙄

I never said it was *just* Americans who were recognised. I was saying it was assessed through an American lens, and from an American perspective Pet Shop Boys were only a "thing" for 2 or 3 years. If you don't believe me, take a look at their US chart performances after Domino Dancing.

If the award/recognition were Euro-centric they'd have it by now, but it isn't.

i know all about how the pet shop boys doesn't have much of a chart history here.

but neither do any of those other bands.

all their glory days were in the 80s, and for depeche a few in the 90s.

nothing they've done recently has made any kind of dent.

to this day, i've never ever heard a roxy music song on the radio (and xm satellite does not count,
because 1st wave will play them). the cure had a few big hits, and same with the eurythmics, but
that was it.
