Richard Niles talks Pet Shop Boys

#1 Post by leesmapman »

Richard Niles talks about working on Left To My Own Devices and why Trevor asked him ("maybe Anne Dudley was sick") :D and other PSB tracks (like Go West) and the rest of the Very era, Tall Tin Men, a Noel Coward musical that never went through, and other very interesting things.

(I already posted it in the youtube thread, but I think this deserves its own topic)

Great find and some interesting aspects – Thank you! :D

but the soul is in the high hat, programmed in the system.

Great interview, thanks for posting. Interesting that they didn't have the budget for real strings on Go West. He says in one of the YouTube comments that he's going to do another video about PSB.

Yeah, that's quite interesting, isn't it?

I wonder if it's because they lost money on the Performance tour and Behaviour didn't sell that well?

Richard Niles implies in the clip that it’s because they blew the budget on flying him to New York to record a Broadway male voice choir. They did manage a real brass arrangement though.

Well, they probably thought they had paid enough for recording Very alrealdy. Neil has said that Very cost more than £1 million to record, and that they spent a Further £250,000 on remixes for the singles. Plus they had a deduction of their royalties of 40p for each copy of The “Lego” CD case because it was so expensive to produce.
