I cried only once, on the first listening of The Way It Used To Be. And it was quite embarassing as I was in the bus.

I don’t think anyone’s mentioned Your funny uncle

Pain bleeds through the LIAC lyrics

And Chris’ refrain of “I’m all alone again” on Excuses is absolutely heartbreaking

Sadness suffuses their entire milieu. Almost everything is coated in a varnish of quiet despair. I think that's what makes their euphoric moments so ecstatic. They emerge from a place of poignant suffering, and the contrast is both intoxicating and liberating. Every glorious escape into happiness is certain to be short lived, so there's an obligation to float away on the temporary high for as long as it can be made to last. Oh look! It's Doom and his friend Gloom.

StevePSB wrote: Wed 12 May 2021, 9:50 pm There are quite a few sad ones, most, if not all are already listed here. I can't remember crying at any PSB song though with the exception of 'For all of us'. Why I cried, I don't actually know.

Always found that part of Paninaro '95 so sad to listen to. It's what makes me prefer it to the original 1986 version.

A handful more from me:

Burning the heather
So sorry, I said
No time for tears
Do I have to?
I started a joke
Woof.

a weird one that I thought was sad and funny at the same time...beautiful people.. "perfect home and perfect kids, not a life lived on the skids" I laughed out loud when I first heard that line. kind of funny the person hopes for a certain kind of life, but the possibility of a life on the skids is always there.

I always get a bit teary when I hear "Miracles" because it reminds me of the birth of my first child.

I'm I the only one who thinks there's some sadness in the West End girls lock down version.
That part where Neil sings the lyrics in an other way. There is just sadness and dispair in his voice.
