Pet Shop Boys - Covers

#1 Post by sonicbleep »

Did any one listen to this ?

https://martinhossbach.bandcamp.com/alb ... oys-covers

The version of Home and Dry by Die Kerzen is okayish and the version of Jealousy could be used in a Tarantino film, as for the rest, well I guess it's produced for people who like to stroke their chins.

The version of This Must Be The Place sounds like it has been sung by Tanita Tikaram after snorting a line of coke! If you have prostate issues and you need inspiration to have a wee then the "cover" version of West End Girls is ideal.

The version of New York city boy is like a very very very poor cover version of the excellent cover version of it that was done by Icon of coil.

Kudos for the cover of Girls Don't Cry, because it's one of their overlooked b sides, and to be fair the version of Vocal is so ridiculous it's fab!

At a push 2.5/10 for effort...

Can you forgive her never sounded sader.

Not a single light on this and I'm a bit ashamed that this comes from Germany.
A blues would be in B flat, pain defining wisdom,
but the soul is in the high hat, programmed in the system.

Not a huge fan of these cover albums to be honest.

There might be the occasional piece of gold but not worth the asking price to find out.

Although I realise there are many fans of the unofficial remixers out there (and indeed I have listened and enjoyed them myself) I stick with the official stuff (which admittedly is a mixed bag).

Greetings,

I hope the boys are getting royalties. Not that it will sell many copies, mind you... but even still.

I'm not going to take a listen because there's so few cover versions of Pet Shop Boys songs that are worth a second listen, I'll conclude that most don't even warrant a first.

Retro. :)

I always found the following mix great, if anyone wants a batch of better covers:

Not made by me, in case anyone was wondering!

There are some pretty terrible versions here. Love etc is a low point. I’ve always quite liked Dirk von Lowtzow’s I want a dog which has been around a little while.

I’ve added those that are available to my Spotify playlist of PSB covers:

Apparently, Dave Gahan's (Depeche Mode) upcoming solo album includes a cover of "Always on my mind":

Don't really know what to expect - Always on my mind wouldn't necessarily be the first song that comes to my mind when I think of songs that suit Gahan's very particular voice and style.

Is that a cover version of West End girls???? You can say it´s a cover of any other PSB song (or even any other artist track!) and it´ll work in the same way as it does now with West End girls...
This is not my signature.

Ooo! Finally a Depeche Mode/Pet Shop Boys connection.
Looking forward to the 12th of November.
I feel like I can imagine it in his voice.

BTW this thread is for a very specific compilation of quite DIY cover versions, but whatever.

Thinking of PSB's own covers. Has anyone ever put together an album from what's available? what would be the best selection of 12 tracks IYO?
And at the end/ Your funny Uncle staring / At all your friends / With military bearing

I was really liking the tunes on the new Elton album...well the few that have been released, they have a bright lush sheen to them production wise, so I was expecting more of that with the "its a sin" cover but its kind of a let down. it starts off too plain just piano and voice, and then when the song finally picks up with a dance groove it sounds by the numbers and generic.

but I dont think I've ever really loved any covers of the PSB music. I think neils voice just suits the tunes more than anyone else.

Oh, I like the idea! There could easily be a double album of covers. :D

1. We're the Pet Shop Boys
2. Always on my mind
3. Go West
4. Losing my mind
5. Where the Streets have no name
6. My Girl
7. Somewhere
8. Viva la vida/Domino Dancing
9. The last to die
10. Break for love
11. It’s alright
12. If love were all
