Love Is A Bourgeois Construct - new single?

#1 Post by ola t » Wed 20 Mar 2013, 6:17 pm

From the MN Records Facebook page, a photo of Michael Nyman with Neil and Chris, and the following caption:
"had a more than pleasant meeting with the Pet Shop Boys in Angel Studios today - exchanging ideas about our respective scores for 'Battleship Potemkin' and listening to their new single, 'Love is a Bourgeois Construct', which is based on 'Chasing Sheep' from 'The Draughtsman's Contract'." (quote from Michael earlier today)
I have no idea if this link to the photo is going to work for everyone, but here it is:

For those who don't know, "The Draughtsman's Contract" is the 1982 film by Peter Greenaway, for which Michael Nyman wrote the soundtrack. 'Chasing Sheep Is Best Left To Shepherds' is a very catchy track.

Great and catchy tune.
It almost sounds like an Instrumental of a PSB-Song :)

I like to believe that but the name man...reminds me of a certain Release song. A future candidate for the "Pet Shop Boys songs that go together" topic.
This is a song about boys and girls. You hear it playing all over the world.

I do like that title. Very Pet Shop Boys.

So I guess it's safe to assume that the 44 second promo clip might be a snippet of an album track, but not of the actual lead single.

Well spotted Ola! I was going to start a Nyman thread, when I realised he had written a score for BP. Also when a piece of his was programmed for the same BBCCO concert as the new arrangement of I wouldn't normally do this kind of thing.

Great title, I can imagine it being real. Hard to know what to imagine. I know the promo clip indicates some direction but I wouldn't be surprised to get at least one track on the album that's very different.

What?!

This sounds a little "too" PSB, but I think that a collaboration with Nyman can`t be anything but great.

With a title like that, this track could only be more pretentious if they recorded a verse in French, commissioned a remix by Akbar the Great, and asked me to write the sleeve-notes.

Needless to say, I'm officially excited.

I thought it was a catastrophe, but that shows how out of date I am.
