Johnny Marr

#1 Post by Tom Angel »

Sorry for banging on about it, I am admittedly slightly obsessed with him!

Is that him on guitar, on King of Rome too?

If so am I correct in thinking it's him on

Did you see me coming (guitar)
Beautiful people (harmonica)
Pandemonium (harmonica)
in suits or sequins/or twin sets and pearls

Chris said Johnny thought this was very Glam Rock Pandemonium (harmonica Johnny)
They make a little go along way.. very Minimal but Fundamental.

no he's not on king of rome. not on love etc/way it used to be either. I was surprised to see he's just one of a bunch of guitar players on the CD.I thought he was THE guitar player.

anyways on this link there is a page with all the songs musician breakdowns.

In the commentary track it was revealed that the "Spanish guitar" in "Vulnerable" is actually Chris playing a keyboard sample!

The "Spanish Guitar" in Stella by Jam & Spoon is also played on keyboard
Did Zoe Ball let something slip today? (31:01:24)

Sorry to bump an ancient topic, but I don't want to create a new Johnny Marr topic. His new song "Spirit, Power & Soul" sounds a lot like Electronic/PSB

great tune!

I was just about to put the same thing. I could see the boys doing a remix of this.

Snap! Been hearing the snippets last few days and the Electronic vibe is all over it
you could say conventional ... and I could claim intentional

ooooo

that IS good isn't it!

His recent solo stuff has been so boring IMO, but this is definitely swimming in electronic waters.

Not feeling it.
Touched By The Hand Of God rip off bassline is stale.
Chorus just doesn't quite feel satisfying to me the way it resolves.
Not a fan of guitars at all.
Wouldn't say this sounds like PSB. PSB is gentle and sophisticated.
Maybe sounds like Brick England, which I'm not big on either. But PSB always do those gear shifting middle 8s. This doesn't have that either.
What's the excitement here anyway, the synthesised drum beat? The delivery of the vocals? I'm not seeing whatever it is the rest of you are.

Kanye's new music, Abba's new music, both better. To each their own, I suppose.
Go listen to New Order's Be A Rebel Remixed. Bernard was the driving force for Electronic.

Johnny’s Record Store Day release is a Vince Clarke Remix of Power and Soul. Is this Johnny’s payback for the Boys getting Bernard Butler to play on Burning the Heather

I don’t know about payback but if Johnny was looking for remixers at the same time PSB were busy remixing other artists it would be a shame if they haven’t taken the opportunity to collaborate again. Night And Day is a really Electronic sounding track; would love to hear their version of that one.
Woof.
