Helena Springs 'New Love' / PSB co-write from 1987

#1 Post by Sandy Shaw »

Has anyone else heard Helena's own version of 'A New Life' on the rare German released album also called 'New Love'. I ordered a (second hand) copy and collected it from my Post Office today so will let you know what I think!

I remember I read long time ago on Wayne's page that she did record her version but it's incredibly rare
did you order it as a vinyl, I'm surprised there's any copies left, I wonder if Helena herself still has one lol
Yes, vinyl from a wonderful Spanish music sales site a bit like eBay but with all set prices. Yes Pertan, that is the cover art. Music Stack will identify some other copies of this for sale.

What can I say - funky! After just having listened to the Boys great version before playing Helena's, it was a bit of a shock to hear more 'real' instruments and an almost 'live' rather than sequenced sound. Both versions are great and it's amazing how different they are, notwithstanding largely re-written lyrics in Helena's version. I am not great on uploading to Youtube but will try when I dig out my digital camera.

BTW photos for Helena's album were by one Eric Watson!

A good friend of mine owns this album. I can't recall having heard her version of the song, though.

Pop round to your friend's place for tea and ask them to play you the track!

also, I've read on Discogs that Helena did backing vocals on West End girls, Violence, & You know where you went wrong
I like her voice so I'm really interested to hear her rendition, I hope it won't be too long before I could hear it
to upload it on youtube, you'd first have to rip it from vinyl which could be a little tricky...
I need one of those vinyl to mp3 converters. Could be useful as I have a large vinyl collection....

Wow. old topic!
I´ve just fond out that the song "New Love" was included on two Helena Springs albums; "Helena" form 1986 and "New Love" from 1987.
Anybody here knows if both are the same version?

Same version, but very different quality!

Only Helena contains the song in good quality.

Thanks for the reply! But which one sounds better? I have the 1987 album... and it sounds pretty good there!

I have both, and my copy of the 1987 album sounds like this

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njjdHfeereM

The problem is a "down" in the volume around 0:06. It is evident to my hears, and it is very clear if you open the track with cooledit or similar.

On the contrary the same song on the 1986 album sounds perfect.
