Re: Pet Shop Boys on Youtube

#2026 Post by ea39 »

Allowing myself one bit of self-promotion for Christmas as I thought it might bring a festive smile to the good folk of this forum... 😁 Hope that's okay...

I've been slowly working my way through recording piano covers of the PSB's ludicrously large catalogue over the last few months, and recently recorded a Christmas trilogy that I've been putting out over the last few days. I started with a couple of extensions/interpretations of the two digital Christmas card pieces (Christmas night and Love came down at Christmas) and finished today with IDOSAC, where I come out of hiding to do my best Chris Lowe impression. Playlist of the three tracks here: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFfK ... 7feUDrkoDC Best listened to through good headphones or speakers...

Merry Christmas to you all, and here's to a great 2025!

Chris/ea39

P.S. Requests welcome for 2025 - I've a few to work through, but as long as it's not The sound of the atom splitting, I'll do it!

Not very surprising all, and not always very correct, but a fun watch nonetheless.

Not the Pet Shop Boys themselves on YouTube - but an interesting cover version of "I want a dog".

These are lovely! Lots of attention to detail. Some piano/synth covers I find a but jarring and dotty, but you turn simple tones into rolling chords 👍.

Would Footsteps translate well?

Thank you very much! Really appreciate it. No idea what made me start it, but somehow I'm getting towards 100 covers... 😄 Started a new job this week, so have slowed down a bit, but currently trying to work out what on earth the chorus chords of View from your balcony are...

Footsteps is a great choice - I think I started working on it a while ago, but must have got sidetracked. I'll add it to the list! Cheers

Thanks for the nudge - I missed these the first time around but have just had a happy romp through your playlist! So many great picks in there - I really enjoyed Too Many People, Wiedersehen, Feel, Lost Room and the bold stab at Single, just to name a few.

Had to laugh when I saw that you DO actually have a post for this one. (This would have made a brilliant April Fools post!) I'm guessing The Former Enfant Terrible is also out of the question? No, seriously, there's a couple from Hotspot that I could see working well on piano - You are the one and Hoping for a miracle.

Is this inspired by the photo on your YT channel of the view of Blackfriars Bridge? If so, while you're there, could you perhaps see what you can do with The Resurrectionist? (And good luck with the new job!)

Ahhh, you've just reminded me that I was going to do something for April Fools. Hadn't decided what, but was considering a mislabelled medley of Erasure songs... :D Maybe Enfant Terrible is an option next time!

Thank you! TVFYB was indeed the reason for that photo - sadly not my actual view...! I'll add Resurrectionist, You are the one and Hoping for a miracle to the To Do list! Thanks for the suggestions.

I did not want to open a new topic for this so I am posting it here.

Back in the early 90s, New Order’s Bernard Sumner revealed to Melody Maker the 14 records that changed his life. Among them is a PSB song as well.
