Paninaro is currently playing on Tom Robinson’s Now Playing BBC 6Music show. This week the show is all about Sparks and a listener suggested that all 80’s synth pop duos were influenced by Sparks and that Chris’s stage persona owes a debt of gratitude to Ron Mael.

Interesting how Sparks commented about each song on twitter but they were silent about this one...

Bit of beef between them? No acknowledgment from Sparks which is strange since they acknowledged all the songs so far, good choice by the listener though a PSB classic.

Big up sparks too, glad they are getting more radio play.

Ha, listening to BBC6 right now, with the Sparks twitter stream open. I just tuned in, and I've missed Paninaro

I noticed that too. Haven’t Neil and Chris always denied that Sparks were an influence?

To be honest I've never heard them mention Sparks, I think they had to have at least a tiny bit of infulence on the boys, the album Number one in Heaven was a blueprint for so many artists. Tracks like My Other Voice had to have at least inspired 'One Of The Crowd'

In Literally (the book as opposed to the mag) I think Chris mentioned that he used to like how Ron Mael just used to sit there looking intense but static. IIRC in around the mid nineties there was an interview in Q with Sparks where they sort of implied that PSB owed them a debt as they were so obviously heavily influenced by them. The next issue carried quite a catty riposte from Neil, via the letters page
Still waiting to hear the Adam Freeland, Manhattan Clique and Axwell mixes of Integral.

Anyone got a picture of Neils riposte? Surprised Neil hasn't made tongue in cheek a song dissing them (Similar to getting away with it with Morrissey)
