Well good on them!
But there is an actual war going on, and it's probably bigger and wider than we all like to think, so.. yeah, brave.

Insanely inappropriate. Navalny was several things, but one of them was a genocidal racist. But then Neil doesn't seem to have any problem with Israel mass-murdering Palestinians, and they obviously won't dare or bother to make any noise against the fascist clampdown in the States. Just an appalling human being.

Re: NEW SINGLE: Hymn (In memoriam Alexei Navalny)
Greetings,
I find the whole "Why hasn't Neil sung a song about my favourite political cause?" line baffling.
Do we not remember that Pet Shop Boys once had a single called How Can You Expect To Be Taken Seriously? about how banal it is when popstars think that their opinions are somehow more important and enlightened than everyone else's?
Sing a song about Israel and Palestine yourself if you care that much about it, richwill. Slandering Neil for not having done so is lame and pathetic.
Retro.

Whether this is true or not - and there's no reason it wouldn't be - the West selects its pick n mix heroes, embeds their names into our minds via repetition through the media, gets us to accept them all as lily white saviours and heaven help anyone who says otherwise. I've no doubt Navalny was a brave, inspirational man but to assume he didn't have demons or engage in past misdemeanours is naive at best.richwill wrote: Sun 08 Jun 2025, 8:20 am Insanely inappropriate. I don't get it? The man was murdered and silenced trying to give his country an inch of fairness.
"heaven help anyone who says otherwise" .... like, what? You might get debated? Or have your views questioned? Gee whizz, you'll survive.
Not like you'll discover Novichok in your tea and then locked up in an icey cell and beaten.
Anyway, anyone suggesting Neil is OK with genocide should put up their evidence or leave, I'm sick of that sh*t. If you think Neil is a genocide supporter why are you on his fan forum ffs.

I was just making a point that if someone mentions another side to someone there's no need for people to have a meltdown and tell them to leave the forum.jasonjohn wrote: Sun 08 Jun 2025, 1:01 pm I don't get it? The man was murdered and silenced trying to give his country an inch of fairness.

The dance mix works mixed into Go West if you have Spotify or DJ decks.

I like it, but it’s not a proper single. Even though they are no his words, it worries me that Neil is openly condemning Putin. Who knows what could happen.

The dance mix is very nice but, of course, sad. It's hard to wiggle innocently on it.

The Happy/Sad band hits again.
Re: NEW SINGLE: Hymn (In memoriam Alexei Navalny)
I think the new dance mix fleshes it out into a proper song and I'm fine with it. It's decent.
But Neil needs to stop banging on about Russia and Putin like it's a sixth form project. It's easy to accept a narrative and pass judgement from the other side of the wall. The situation is far more complex than he makes it out to be. Perhaps he could examine what's going on in the West as a counterbalance.
Where is the outrage about the genocide in Gaza and the seventy years of misery created by the geographical skin-graft that is Israel? Oh, that's right - we haven't been given permission to talk about that one.

Re: NEW SINGLE: Hymn (In memoriam Alexei Navalny)
It's a single release to align with a sixth form concert commemorating a politician who was likely murdered, sure.daveid wrote: Thu 12 Jun 2025, 12:01 am But Neil needs to stop banging on about Russia and Putin like it's a sixth form project.
That's so tired. There are active genocide in Sudan, Myanmar (and Xinjiang, if you dare mention it) right now. He hasn't mentioned any of those either, and neither have you.

It will be a very long album track list if they should cover every tragic event globally. Some +40 tracks or more just for the basics - unfortunately. Album title "Depressed" ?

Re: NEW SINGLE: Hymn (In memoriam Alexei Navalny)
Greetings,
Retro.
I for one am very thankful they keep their direct, naive "Guardian" style of politics off the albums (e.g. Agenda EP, Zero Hour, Hymn), and that when they do include something political on an album they either do it in a more abstruse or artistic way (e.g. Bullet For Narcissus, The Dictator Decides).jyllinge wrote: Thu 12 Jun 2025, 2:55 pm It will be a very long album track list if they should cover every tragic event globally.
