Thanks! That was interesting to read in lots of ways! I saved it to check out some of those songs.PSBForTheMasses wrote:I did not want to open a new topic for this so I am posting it here.
Back in the early 90s, New Order’s Bernard Sumner revealed to Melody Maker the 14 records that changed his life. Among them is a PSB song as well.

Thanks for sharing these but why NOT start a new topic? You'd be totally justified in doing so! And someone did recently ask about Neil's Smash Hitstory so it wouldn't even be out of place in that thread. But we are starting to drift off the YouTube topic here.PSBForTheMasses wrote: Fri 25 Apr 2025, 11:23 pm I did not want to open a new topic for this so I am posting it here.
Don't be shy, folks. Do a quick topic search and either post a new topic or frighten all the old-timers by resurrecting an old one.

Re: Pet Shop Boys on Youtube
Had this as my first car and lost it because of a drunk bellend in traffic that hit me frontally.
Missed it dearly, now it's set even more in stone that it's legend.

That’s the thing about negative energy, about hatred. It can be positive. It throws into relief all the things you know you like. It tells you, by elimination, what you’re about. Sometimes you can only define yourself by what you hate. Hatred becomes an inspiration; it makes you think, “What I’m doing now I totally believe in, and I don’t care what other people say.” Guided by hatred, you don’t have to follow the herd. - Neil Tennant

Re: Pet Shop Boys on Youtube
Back in the 80s, Neil Tennant was asked what his favourite records were that had been released in the last few years…
(source Absolutely Pet Shop Boys)
New Order: Substance (LP) True Faith (single) ‘True Faith’ is the best song New Order have ever done.’
Various: My Fair Lady
‘It’s the original West End cast, 1959, starring Julie Andrews and Rex Harrison. I saw this musical first at a Saturday matinee in Newcastle’s Theatre Royal when I was about ten and we also had the record at home. One of my favourite songs ever is I’ve Grown Accustomed To Her Face.’
Stevie Wonder: Innervisions
“This, Hejira and My Fair Lady’aren’t exactly new but they’ve all come out on CD in the last year or so and I’ve been listening to them a lot This was originally released in 1973 when I lived in a flat in Tottenham with some friends. It contains one of my favorite Stevie Wonder songs All In Love Is Fair.
Joni Mitchell: Hejira
‘I bought the record of this in 1977 at Our Price Records in Charring Cross Road the same time as I bought ‘God Save the Queen’ by the Sex Pistols.’
Sting: Fragile
“Funnily enough I quite like some of Sting’s songs. He comes across so big headed sometimes that I think it puts people off, but this has got a brilliant melody and I love the whole ‘fragile’ sound of it.’
Guesch Patti: Etienne
‘It’s the sort of song one thinks Tina Turner should sing. Apparently, the words are quite rude, but I don’t know what it’s all about as it’s all in French.’
Various: The House Sound of Chicago Vol Ill Acid Tracks
‘The singer sounds like Boy George, the feel of it is incredibly joyful and it’s got really good words.’
Joyce Sims: Come Into My Life
This is such a beautiful song and it’s got a fantastic introduction .’
Desireless: Voyage Voyage
‘It’s a fantastic song; almost like an ethereal disco record.. When we made I’m Not Scared with Patsy kensit we wanted to make the same sort of record.’
Dusty Springfield: The Silver Collection
“This is a compilation of all her best singles. My favourite is I Close My Eyes and Count to Ten. Also, my copy of it is signed ‘to Neil, lots of love Dusty’ with about 20 kisses on so it’s one of my most prized possessions.”
