Love the sound of Super.
Hotspot is the album where I'd most like to hear the demos.

So there we have it.Dog wrote: ↑Mon 23 Sep 2024, 7:34 amFrom the Further Listening booklet:telys wrote:Hague is credited with "additional production " . That's why I suspect what they handed over was more of a finished product than merely demoes, think of DJ Culture and Disappointed as a reference where Hague did extra work for the 7" versions
“In those days Chris had a studio in an outhouse at his home in Hertfordshire. The Pet Shop Boys recorded the basic tracks for Very there, working with the programmer Pete Gleadall who had previously programmed their tours, then they moved to Sarm West to complete recording, before handing the tracks over to Stephen Hague for additional production and mixing at RAK studios. "It's great at a certain point to give it someone else," says Neil. However, this was the first Pet Shop Boys album they would primarily produce themselves. "We didn't feel experienced enough before," Neil explains. "Although we had produced other people," Chris says, "it's easier producing someone other than yourself."”
Perhaps Hagues role was kind of enoesque. I read on one of the sleeves of a U2 album that Brian Eno was credited with "treatments"... oh so pretentious. My guess is Hague's role on Very was more in the mix than in the production.

It’s been many decades, but I remember reading in an interview somewhere Neil providing an example of what Stephen Hague brought to “Very.” Neil stated that Hague added the horn riffs to “I wouldn’t normally do this kind of thing.” Based upon this, I think Hague’s role was to basically add flourishes and otherwise fill-out the sound of the album.

I love the design of the expanded version of Nonetheless. First time I see it today. Great!

Re: Nonetheless - Expanded Edition
They should have called the extended version 'Nevertheless', it makes it apart from 'Nonetheless' but still keeps it together...

Thanks. Enjoyed that. Lots of instrumentation removed as well as the vocals though. Maybe one day we’ll get the proper instrumentals.here's a megamix... came out pretty good..
