Wembley Sound Issues?

#1 Post by Seanyboy »

Don’t know if it was just where I was sitting but the sound quality at Wembley was as bad as I’ve ever heard the Boys live.

The sound occasionally seems to occasionally merge into one discordant wall of noise. Neil’s vocal sounded good throughout but sometimes just got lost in a mess of everything else.

I’ve seen every UK tour including 1989 and Performance (or was it Nightlife) at Wembley Arena and never heard anything like this before.

Was it just me or did anyone else feel the sound was a bit off tonight?

**3 Arena Dublin 19 June 2023 - TERRIBLE. Safe to say the worst gig sound I have ever had to endure. I'm demanding a refund on the grounds that what came out of the PA system was not an appropriate reflection of the Performing Artiste.

It takes a special kind of failure to allow paying customers to experience such a terrible show.
It takes an even more appalling team to make the output of a £3m PA system from one of the word's leading "big three" manufacturers sound like a £29 Bluetooth speaker. All members of the Audio team on the Dublin show should be ashamed.

The brand of speakers used in Dublin and most likely for tour are brilliant - their software allows for ultra accurate system design which in turn means the response in each venue can be predicted, and appropriate settings used to guarantee an epic sound every time.

The system design was lacking, with no flown sub (for an electronic act?!). This could have been predicted by a competent system designer. The mid range (which was all that would have made the bleachers) was distorted to the point of pain. I thought this was purely some wicked comb filtering affecting my seat until I walked round Blocks A/B/C, before finding the best sound was in the bar corridor towards the exits. Anybody caring and competent would not have let the customers experience the show with such bad audio, is is verging on professional negligence.

The people I came to see the gig with said they had to "Overlook the PA System" to enjoy the gig. "OVERLOOK"? I had to plead with the stewards for ear plugs which took the edge off the pain caused by the overdriven and potentially heavily distorted mid range.

It is simply not acceptable that a world class act has given such a bunch of audio amateurs to amplify their shows. As a life long PSB fan and first time gig goer, I am gutted that the show I have been looking forward to left me feeling so upset, in pain, and genuinely wondering why I had wasted time and money going to it.

I was going to let my feelings rest and move on. Seeing the feedback from genuine long term fans is genuinely alarming, and I'm now, unfortunately going to have to escalate.

I'm not a complainer, not a moaner. I'd just be mortified if any of the customers coming to any of my shows had such a negative experience, and purely for the benefit of other fans at forthcoming shows, plus yourselves should you want to risk another Deaf Shop Boys gig, please do raise your voices.

The way to register this displeasure is NOT to complain at the venues, but to politely ask them who the Promoter and the Rep for this tour is. The office team at OVO Arena are lovely and most likely to help. Demand a refund, and raise a complaint. Reference this message if you have to.
