I like a lot the song, not love, but it's quite good for me.
I'm reading some critics about the production of other songs of James Ford, but i love many songs that he has done with Jessie Ware, and this song has many of the details that i like so much.
And i believe that the Boys were looking for that sound exactly.
The musical parts are glorious.
The lyrics are ok.
It's a Pet Shop Boys song but a little different.
Watched the video again today, after familiarizing myself with the song quite a lot (30+ plays since it came out, I'd say).
Everything just clicked for me - beautiful, funny, poignant in places, HORNS!
I say it's their best opening single for a long, long time, since Love Etc. probably - explanation below:
Winner - the less said, the better
Axis - amazing, but very robotic and dance-y, I love the reflective side of PSB just a tad more than their full-on camp and dance side
The Pop Kids - didn't really have a video, great song but not as nice a package as Loneliness
Dreamland - I find both Neil's and Olly's vocals grating in this, I repeatedly switch it with An Open Mind when listening to Hotspot
If you got through my whole monologue, congratulations and here's to another great PSB era!
That’s the thing about negative energy, about hatred. It can be positive. It throws into relief all the things you know you like. It tells you, by elimination, what you’re about. Sometimes you can only define yourself by what you hate. Hatred becomes an inspiration; it makes you think, “What I’m doing now I totally believe in, and I don’t care what other people say.” Guided by hatred, you don’t have to follow the herd. - Neil Tennant
The horn sound in the chorus is at the same level as the beat. I'd like it to be more powerful but it's done on purpose.
I wonder how the ballads will be. The production on the b sides is heavy, but a bit harsch. I think it will difficult to top the fundamental ballads but we're in for a treat.

Assume there will be a remix bundle within the coming weeks, and maybe a 12” too.
Let’s hope so !
If remixed then I hope they go for the part between 03:10 - 03:55 (album version) and enhance it so it becomes more a dance/disco track and hopefully get success in the US billboard dance charts.

Surprised there are ni mixes, yet. It's a track that's so obviously open for remixing.
