IF you look into Discogs, there is a very good detail of the diferences on the notes section!! ;)

https://www.discogs.com/release/2738917 ... s-19852020

- CD1-8 "Always On My Mind" has a 10 seconds longer fade-out compared to any previously released version (3:54 duration printed on digisleeve is wrong, correct 4:04 duration above).
- CD1-18 "Was It Worth It?" has a longer outro which is 10 seconds longer than on the original (4:23 duration printed on digisleeve is wrong, correct 4:34 duration above).
- CD2-8 "Se A Vida É" has a slightly longer (around 3 seconds) fade-out compared to any previously released version.
- CD2-9 "Single-Bilingual" has echo effects for some vocals ("Barcelona") that are not on the original single version.
- CD2-11 the first few seconds of "Somewhere" are different and some vocal samples from the "West Side Story" movie have been removed.
- CD3-4 "Love etc." is not the original single version, but the mix included for the first time on the "Yes - Further listening" re-issue from 2017 (the drums and bass doesn´t stop at 2:23 as on the original versions).
- CD3-8 "Winner" is a slightly different mix, released for the first time here (the background orchestration was removed from the last minute of the song, and some other minor differences).

And about the Blu-rays content:
- BD1-8 the video of "Always On My mind" is not an actual upgrade of the original, but a re-creation made using parts of the remastered "It couldn´t happen here" film. A couple of shots and effects are different to the original version of the video because of that.
- BD1-14 the video of "Being Boring" originally included on the Blu-ray is the previously unreleased "censored" U.S. version.
- BD1-27 the video of "Single Bilingiual" includes a slightly different mix of the audio compared with the original, the same mix that is present also on the CD2.
This is not my signature.

Interesting. Wonder if a regular on these forums made those Discogs updates. Another observation is that the audio on the Blu-ray video of 'Was It Worth It' also has the "I don't know why, I don't know why, I never thought I'd fall in love" variation heard on the 'SMASH' CD, and is missing the crowd noise just before it in the original video. I guess they decided to overdub some of the videos with the remastered 'SMASH' versions for the Blu-ray (as with 'Single-Bilingual'), but not others with obvious sound overdubs (such as 'Heart').

It's the Always on my mind video I was talking about, actually :)

Has anyone received, or knows when we will receive, our replacement Blu-ray with the correct Being Boring video?

Fabulous question. I’ve heard nothing, not even a confirmation email.

nice summary Oznerol

Is it just me or does Single-Bi sound much richer?

I always found the mixing of that album a little muddy to my ears (which actually works in some ways, becauses it's a delightful mixture of an album).... But now that single sounds quite polished?

Sorry if this was already discussed. But I’ve just read in Annually 2023, that « All versions [in Smash] are
the seven-inch versions that were serviced to radio stations, apart from "New York City boy" which is the American radio edit preferred by Chris and Neil ».
Do this statement answer the questions about the slightly diferences in comparison to the different single versions ?

Seven inch versions of the singles are identical to the CD singles versions when those were released in both formats. The slight differences that appear on Smash are exclusive to Smash (except for some tracks that had already been released with those differences: NYC boy, Love Etc. or Winner on Further Listening editions or PopArt).
The Annually statement is kinda weird when you know that half of the singles on Smash were never released on 7inch vinyl, while some that have been don't even feature on Smash...

As for the mention "serviced to radio stations", it is only meaningful for the track "Vocal" as this is the only one on Smash with a version that never appeared on a Pet Shop Boys commercial single. Hence the radio edit available on a promo CDr was serviced to radio stations.
But if they had followed this logic a little further, some versions on Smash should have been different. "I wouldn't normally do this kind of thing" for example, of which the promo radio edit is 40 seconds shorter than the regular 7inch version.

What's different about Winner?

The background orchestration, as mentioned in Oznerol post. That version also appeared on the 2017 remaster of Elysium with Further Listening 2011-2012.
It's subtle, but when you listen to the original 2012 version of Winner and the 2017 version back to back, you can't help but noticing the differences.

Gosh, it's crazy isn't it - if they're going to remaster and re-release things, the very least they can do is get the correct versions of the darn tracks on there. With 'Actually' and 'Yes', I always have to listen to the original CDs, due to the versions of 'I Want To Wake Up' and 'Love Etc.' differing to the original album, and now it's the same with 'Elysium', evidentially. Even with the singles, my definitive way of listening to them all is still the playlist I already had containing 'Discography' followed by all the original versions from the CD singles. I thought I'd be able to use 'Smash', but even then there's enough erroneous versions that I may as well stick with the original released single versions just to be sure they're the correct mixes!

Bizarre to think there's all these ever-so-slightly different version of their tracks sitting in the archives, obviously not correctly labelled!
