I agree. I've heard the live version but not the single mix. The vocal was indeed a bit loud on the album version as well. I bet Neil loves hearing his voice on top of the mix!

How can you ask if the single mix has ruined the song when you haven't even heard the proper single mix? And what does ruined mean? Surely it means you can't enjoy any version of the song forever more. How silly.
What about the limited answers you can choose from? What about the person (like me) who thinks the volume of Neil's voice is fine but still thinks the live version is better?
my sincere apologies for not following best practice polling methodology on an internet discussion forum
Vocal is a great song but the mix has ruined it for me. Even the album version which I purchased today still has the vocal sounding like nails down a chalk board. I've even done my own version now by just removing about 4db at 4kHz from the center of the mix and to my ears it's much better. Try it yourself.
I think the problem is at the start of the track, once the music gets going it's not that bad.
Cheers
Steve.
I was faced with a choice at a difficult age
Would I write a book? Or should I take to the stage?
But in the back of my head I heard distant feet
Che Guevara and Debussy to a disco beat

Buy it instead !
So where can I buy the single edit?
No chance at the time! The radio edit just appeared on the digital copy for the radio stations (which was supplied with samples yesterday) together with the Price Instrumental and the album version. There isn't anyone here, who can get his/her hands on that copy! First time for this should be, when a physical CD-R (from the record company) would be delivered to the press and the radio stations! But if that still will happen (like it was with Parlophone)...?? Can't say at the time! We should have answers in about one or two weeks!
