Pet Shop Boys and the Eurovision Song Contest
Re: Pet Shop Boys and the Eurovision Song Contest
THE ESC has turned into a freak show. A bearded lady? Attention whores everywhere. This is not about music. It's about who's more bunkers and outrageous. And pretty much all the songs are dross.

I quite liked her song.
Hello my name is Neil Tennant and I'm Chris Lowe and we're of the Pet Shop Boys.
Re: Pet Shop Boys and the Eurovision Song Contest
I love Eurovision (possibly for all the wrong reasons) but I would not want to see the boys perform. On the other hand I have no problem with them writing the UK song to be performed by another artist. And goodness knows the UK desperately needs a half decent song!
But it feels like the flight
Of the von Trapps, does that mean it's war?

I really liked Conchita's peformance, and I think the song is great

Some people will see the Austrian act as another entertainer standing up for transgender rights, much in the same way as the Winner video, to the extent that the PSB Facebook makes parallels between Winner and the Austria act.
Meanwhile those will get offended by the naysayers like back then with Winner.

Eh, the only parallel I saw in the FB entry was that they're winners... just like the title of the song! "'Winner’ is a fitting song for Austria, who were crowned Eurovision champions this Saturday. Austria, you’re a winner!"
And everything about tonight feels right and so young
And anything I'd want to say out loud will be sung
It's in the music...

Re: Pet Shop Boys and the Eurovision Song Contest
Is the parrallel of the transvestite in the Winner video and Conchita himself not there?

Re: Pet Shop Boys and the Eurovision Song Contest
Drag performance and transgenderism are two different things, so, no.
Not that people won't conflate the two and draw their own parallels. But the "official" PSB FB page doesn't do this, explicitly or implicitly. It's all about being winnerzzzz! :p

Should PSB write and perform a Eurovision song? Absolutely not! They will be ridiculed just like Bonnie Tyler and Engelbert Humperdinck.
Should PSB write a Eurovison song for a group consisting of two men and two women - all in their first half twenties? Absolutely yes!

I thought you meant that you were that "fella", but I believe you are a lady Corina!Corina wrote:metucky101 wrote:Anyone watching it at the end see the fella in the front row cheering the winner and wearing a nightlife tour t-shirt?
A friend of my sister's was actually in the audience. I avoided Eurovision and went to a wonderful James Galway concert in Cadogan Hall near Sloane Square.
What's for supper?
