Will "Electric" receive a Grammy nomination?
As all of you know, Pet Shop Boys have never won any Grammy awards, but have received a total of six nominations:
Best Dance/Electronica Album: "Fundamental" and "Yes"
Best Dance/Electronica Recording: "To Step Aside" and "I'm With Stupid"
Best Recording Package: "Very Relentless" and "Release"
On 6 December the nominations for the 56th Grammy Awards will be announced. Do you think Pet Shop Boys will be mentioned in this announcement? The poll I've created is only for the category "Best Dance/Electronica Album", but feel free to discuss PSBs chances in other categories below. Also welcome for discussion: Which (other) albums or recordings will get nominated?
Personally I believe "Electric" will be nominated, but "Random Access Memories" will be a too strong opponent and probably (and unfortunately) win the award.

I think they will get nominated but not win
I hope Daft Punk don't win, I bought their album on the strength of "Get Lucky" but apart from that track the rest was crap!

Depends (hopefully) on the strength of the nominations. PSB clearly have a very very strong album, and if it doesn't even get nominated it would reveal that the Grammy's are not just about the music, if you ask me.

It's not all crap, but it really has a lot of filler compared to Electric which is ace from track 1 to 9 (the exception for many probably being Shouting In The Evening, but I freaking love it).Andie wrote:I think they will get nominated but not win

Have a look at my taste in music:

That’s the thing about negative energy, about hatred. It can be positive. It throws into relief all the things you know you like. It tells you, by elimination, what you’re about. Sometimes you can only define yourself by what you hate. Hatred becomes an inspiration; it makes you think, “What I’m doing now I totally believe in, and I don’t care what other people say.” Guided by hatred, you don’t have to follow the herd. - Neil Tennant

I just found it disappointing, & yes a lot of filler.NikacP0kac wrote:It's not all crap, but it really has a lot of filler compared to Electric which is ace from track 1 to 9 (the exception for many probably being Shouting In The Evening, but I freaking love it).Andie wrote:I think they will get nominated but not win

Random Access Memories is definitely a winner. Personally, I really like the album, and it`s some of the best Daft Punk has ever done. But it will most likely win, mostly because of all the publicity that Electric doesn`t have (unfortunately). Still, I think it`s going to be a pretty exciting Grammy, because there have been a lot of good albums and music out this year...

Thanks! That was an interesting read & I agree with what was written. I may be biased, but no-one does it better than PSB

Yes, I think it's a virtual certainty (with all the positive critical notice it received) Electric will be nominated, but nearly as certain that it will lose to the Daft Punk album.
Then again, the Grammys do have a history of using such awards to pay belated tribute to respected acts considered to be in their "twilight years" that should have won Grammys much sooner, but didn't. That could lead to PSB pulling an upset. I wouldn't bet next month's mortgage payment on it, but it's quite possible.

I hope you're right Wayne, they deserve it more than Daft Punk.geowayne wrote:Yes, I think it's a virtual certainty (with all the positive critical notice it received) Electric will be nominated, but nearly as certain that it will lose to the Daft Punk album.

Congratulations to Daft Punk with five nominations.
(Pet Shop Boys: none)

Lorde is up against Daft Punk for Record of the year. I hope she wins. She has three other nominations too & is in the running for song of the year, record of the year, best pop solo performance and best pop vocal album for Pure Heroine.
But Pet Shop Boys: none, that is beyond my understanding

Re: Will "Electric" receive a Grammy nomination?
It's appalling that Electric -- one of the most critically acclaimed albums of the year -- didn't receive a nomination in the "Best Dance/Electronic Album" category.
In light of what I said earlier, I suppose the one possible silver lining is that this may mean the music industry doesn't consider yet the Pet Shop Boys to be in their "twilight years." So it's not yet time to award them that "consolation Grammy" (a classic example being Steely Dan winning "Album of the Year" for their 2000 record Two Against Nature, which was a far weaker, less Grammy-deserving album than any of those that they released during their 1970s heyday).
