one thing is sure: Electric is way too brief! everytime i put it on it feels like three songs later it's already over...

1. Release
2. Nightlife
3. Bilingual
4. Electric
5. Actually
6. Yes
7. Behaviour
8. Very
9. Fundamental
10. Please
11. Introspective
12. Elysium

It baffles me how anyone could like Elysium more than Release! Release had substance and style, Elysium is hollow and emotionally vapid & insipid!

Greetings,

I think more people would be baffled that Release and Nightlife could be anyone's favourite PSB albums. 8)

But then, that's not the theme of this topic, so :gag:

Retro. :)

I rank "Electric" no. 1.

Simply because there are no fillers in it - even no boring moments, like there are in all other albums ("Tonight is forever", "Hit music", "I'm not scared", "My october symphony", "One and one make five", "Saturday night forever", "Happiness is an option", "The night I fell in love", "Psychological", "King of Rome" and "Your early stuff" to mention the low-points of the previous albums).

"I am not scared" boring filler?  :? :(

Or indeed Tonight is forever?

Filler does not equal "song I personally don't like so much".

However, you have a point, which I was going to make myself but forgot to. Electric is the first pet shop boys album since Behaviour where I like ALL the songs. (Though of course, it also has fewer songs!)

agreed! nightlife and bilingual are extremely underappreciated too, i think. strange though that you rate electric highly but not introspective...

Abstain. I have absolutely no idea how to rank the albums at all!

Somewhere in the middle I think so far. But time will tell. I still haven't decided where to place Elysium...

My rankings:

1. Very
2. Behaviour
3-5. Please; Actually; Bilingual
6. Introspective
7-8. Release; Electric
9. Yes
10. Nightlife
11. Fundamental
12. Elysium

I think their first 6 albums are classics.
I really enjoy Release despite some flaws.
Electric is great but it reminds me of Relentless so that it almost doesn't feel quite like a regular Pet Shop Boys album.
Yes and Nightlife are very hit and miss.
I don't understand why Fundamental is so highly regarded...
Elysium is my least favourite but it has grown on me..

It's surprising and disheartening to see Elysium rank so low for some fans. It's a gorgeous album, and one of their most sophisticated.

I put Electric in at number 8. Very glossy, superficial perhaps but lacking the substance of pearls like Please, Actually, Very, Behaviour, Yes, Fundy or Introspective.

Nice as it is though... Please in particular.... rains all over every bit of it !!!

Especially the Production
