9. Best track on Electric along with Flourescent. Might prove to be a 10 longterm, but we'll see. I don't hand out 10's easily.

Agreed, I love this bit. The land of dreams bit is so ethereal.Bjossi wrote:2:14 - 2:53 will probably rank as one of my favourite PSB music moments of all time. The track has a booming melody that has me hopelessly hooked from the first second the drums kick in, as if I wasn't hopelessly hooked enough by the peaceful and dreamy intro. A definite 10/10 from me, one of my top 3 on the album right now.

I agree. These are the two outstanding achievements on Electric. An absolutely breathtaking 12 minutes, and up there with their best work.BlueSwan wrote:9. Best track on Electric along with Flourescent. Might prove to be a 10 longterm, but we'll see. I don't hand out 10's easily.
The fact they are Nicknames' two least favourite tracks just adds a pleasant side order of vindication.

I really love the intricacy and atmosphere of Fluorescent. It's evocative, seductive and well crafted. I initially disliked it. I now see it as classic PSB.
Does anyone else find they initially dislike the songs they love? It's as if you need to get to grips with it.

Well this is the Inside a Dream thread but I'll bite. Fluorescent was a love at first listen and sight, I'm still waiting for the full 4 minute video we saw a part of in the teaser.
One song I didn't care much for at first but is quickly growing on me is Last to Die. I didn't dislike it per say, it just didn't really grab my attention.

This does not happen to me. Since the first day I heard Suburbia at British Awards on TV, Pet Shop Boys songs are either instant love stories or dislikes. Thank God that there are so many I instantly like. It is as if the Boys are writing songs just for my taste and pleasure (what a selfish thought).Niall wrote: Does anyone else find they initially dislike the songs they love? That's the PSB difference. As to other bands or singers, I may like their songs in time but I also forget them as soon as new ones are released. For instance, I had to like Get Lucky because it was everywhere so you felt like that you should like this song. But now its heavy rotation has somehow lessened, I don't find myself jumping out of the bed and running to Youtube to listen to it mornings.
The only exception is Can You Forgive Her, which I passionately disliked at first for a long time but now I think it is a gorgeous thing and is the best thing in Very.
Re: Rating: "Inside a dream"
IMO, best track together with Fluorescent. That moment at 2:14 sounds so beautiful and classic PSB to me. Unfortuantely, these moments are very rare nowadays.
Re: Rating: "Inside a dream"
I totally agree, the part from 2:14 is bloody good. It's my favorite part of the album, And the song is also my favorite. I agree too that the voice at the beginning is a bit annoying, unless you know exactly what Chris say. If someone has an explanation. I hope it's not like in e mail, searching for a meaning and finally finding in an interview that there were no message at all.

Sometimes there's songs i like a lot and after playing them again and again, i get used to it, so i play them sporadically, which doesn't mean i dislike them.PSBForTheMasses wrote:This does not happen to me. Contrary to that, some songs grows on you. For example, at first i didn't like more than a dream, but after several listen, and putting a closer look at the lyrics, i discover that the song was extraordinary, and it's became one of my favorite of the boys. Usually, a dislike happens immediately (as with i started a joke).
It does'nt happen much fortunately. There's far more instant like than dislike , and from time to time, songs that let you speechless after the first listen. (as me with twenieth century, omg i was happy, i fell in love with this song).
However i'm a bit fed up with some old standards songs that are played in every concert and heard too much.

Weakest track of the Electric album.
But then again, Electric is fantastic, so it's not a bad song at all.

I'm just wondering where's the instrumental of this track along with the instrumental of Fluorescent that were supposedly going to be on some promo or similar?
Have a look at my taste in music:

That’s the thing about negative energy, about hatred. It can be positive. It throws into relief all the things you know you like. It tells you, by elimination, what you’re about. Sometimes you can only define yourself by what you hate. Hatred becomes an inspiration; it makes you think, “What I’m doing now I totally believe in, and I don’t care what other people say.” Guided by hatred, you don’t have to follow the herd. - Neil Tennant
