Rating: "Thursday"
Re: Rating: "Thursday"
9/10 although I'd like to have given it 9.5 I like Neil's vocals as they are, I think Example is a good addition, so keep him! It's not one of their best tracks in 20 years though.
Don’t be scared, for only the dark can show you the stars
Re: Rating: "Thursday"
1) Would you like this track was a single?
Maybe
2) Would you like Neil could change his soft voice on the verses of this track to a proper voice in a similar way he sings the chorus?
Vocal level is low and needs increasing and the distorted effect on Chris's spoken bits needs removing
3) What's your opinion about Example's rap?
It's ok
4) What's your opinion about Example's singing (after the rap)?
His vocal should be just the middle 8 section of the track
5) Do you like Example taking part of this song or would you like Example was deleted on a single version of the track?
As above I would remove his vocal part after the rap
6) Do you think "Thursday" is one the best PSB tracks in 20 years?
Nowhere near it's even an average track for this album
7) Do you think "Thursday" could be very well appreciated by general public and having success if it has a good promotion?
Appreciated yes but sales would still be very low if it was released as a single
Maybe

And please answer these questions:
1) Would you like this track was a single?.
No, categorically not
2) Would you like Neil could change his soft voice on the verses of this track to a proper voice in a similar way he sings the chorus?.
No. It has been produced that way for a reason
3) What's your opinion about Example's rap?
Dreadful. Truly, shockingly, chavtastically, jarringly dreadful. It has no place in a PSB song.
4) What's your opinion about Example's singing (after the rap)?
Better that the rap but detracts from N&C
5) Do you like Example taking part of this song or would you like Example was deleted on a single version of the track?
Deleted, with all my heart. And not worthy of a single, weakest track on the album. Filler.
6) Do you think "Thursday" is one the best PSB tracks in 20 years?
It is amongst the only three I hate. I like The Sound Of The Atom Splitting more.
7) Do you think "Thursday" could be very well appreciated by general public and having success if it has a good promotion?
Possibly by the sort of Twonks who buy the crap in the charts... I will repeat, a single doesn't need to be wasted on this, if the kidz want it for Example they would bd downloading it now, that's how things get in the singles chart these days.

Re: Rating: "Thursday"
1) Would you like this track was a single?
No. Any success that this track gets is not on PSB's own merit but by someone else that sung on the record.
2) Would you like Neil could change his soft voice on the verses of this track to a proper voice in a similar way he sings the chorus?
Just bump up the volume.
3) What's your opinion about Example's rap?
Its a good rap. Remember Neil used to rap at the very beginning.
4) What's your opinion about Example's singing (after the rap)?
Almost better than Neils. PSB could try and produce an Example album.
5) Do you like Example taking part of this song or would you like Example was deleted on a single version of the track?
He can stay.
6) Do you think "Thursday" is one the best PSB tracks in 20 years?
Possibly. There's lots of great tracks released in the last 20 years. Other Electric tracks make the grade.
7) Do you think "Thursday" could be very well appreciated by general public and having success if it has a good promotion?
Maybe by Example fans if they care about a short cameo, but otherwise it'll fall like all the others recently. Again even if it is successful it won't be on its own merits. PSB leeching off the success that someone else brought them. They should only be successful as a duo, producers or songwriters, not Pet Shop Boys feat. Whoever getting help from an act revelent to the kids today.

Re: Rating: "Thursday"
“Thursday”
SP: Multiple vocalists on this.
NT: Originally the album was going to be alphabetical, I thought, “I’ve got to write a lyric to a song called “Thursday”,” ’cause on the original demo Chris had called it “Thursday”.
CL: I called it “Thursday Night Special”.
NT: Is that what it was called?
CL: When it was a demo, yeah.
NT: And that got, erm, abbreviated to “Thursday”. So then there’s the battle of the choruses. [laughs] ‘Cause I thought of this chorus, again in my very creative kitchen at home, playing the demo, that we’d worked on. I wrote the first chorus, and then this chorus is based on Example’s chorus, which we will hear later.
CL: Someone here knows the days of the week! [laughs]
SP: But I think that crisp vocal stuff, it’s classic.
NT: It’s great. So for ages we had a Nicki Minaj sample on this track. And then Stuart revealed he was working with Example, who is, amongst other things, a rapper.
SP: I think we just thought it’s a slightly unexpected combination, which normally leads to something pretty good. Sometimes you go with the obvious and you end up, not really getting above it. Example was just quite an unusual choice. But he, I think he just understood that; it’s just that got more Sugarhill direction.
CL: Totally! And of course he came up with a great chorus.
SP: Yeah, the fourth chorus.

Re: Rating: "Thursday"
1) Would you like this track was a single? Not in its current form, neils verses are a bit forgettable because you can't hear them and with todays youth attention spans they're not gonna be interested in vocals you can hardly hear. The chorus and Examples bits are catchy enough though
2) Would you like Neil could change his soft voice on the verses of this track to a proper voice in a similar way he sings the chorus? Yes please
3) What's your opinion about Example's rap?Good, brings the track to life in my opinion
4) What's your opinion about Example's singing (after the rap)?same as above
5) Do you like Example taking part of this song or would you like Example was deleted on a single version of the track?I like, infact would like him to sing more on it
6) Do you think "Thursday" is one the best PSB tracks in 20 years? not even close, there's 8 tracks on this album that I consider better, a raft of tracks on Format, most of Yes, and about half of Elysium.
7) Do you think "Thursday" could be very well appreciated by general public and having success if it has a good promotion?possibly if it is re-worked/remixed or re-recorded. But then you could say good promotion would have worked for loads of PSB tracks. EMI lost the plot in their latter PSB days where promotion was concerned

Re: Rating: "Thursday"
How do I rate? An eight! Maybe more, I'm not sure...
1) Would you like this track was a single?
Yes. It could be a hit.
2) Would you like Neil could change his soft voice on the verses of this track to a proper voice in a similar way he sings the chorus?
I don't know really what you mean, but the chorus vocals sounds great. However I think the whispered words in the verses are buried too much in the mix, and I don't think that Neil's voice sounds good when he uses his lower register as in the "pre-chorus".
3) What's your opinion about Example's rap?
Normally I don't like this kind of raps, but I do like this one! It fits the song.
4) What's your opinion about Example's singing (after the rap)?
It's good! Interesting variation of the chorus as well. I would even have liked him to join Neil for the last chorus.
5) Do you like Example taking part of this song or would you like Example was deleted on a single version of the track?
Keep him in!
6) Do you think "Thursday" is one the best PSB tracks in 20 years?
Not really. Good enough for a single though.
7) Do you think "Thursday" could be very well appreciated by general public and having success if it has a good promotion?
Yes.

Re: Rating: "Thursday"
1) Would you like this track was a single?
What difference would it make? It would get nowhere, and doesn't need to, The label are doing a great job with the current strategy , a better job than DM did with there recent release, it would be R2 listed but that makes no difference to singles, have you looked at the singles chart lately ? why are we bothered?
2) Would you like Neil could change his soft voice on the verses of this track to a proper voice in a similar way he sings the chorus?
No as mentioned here, its produced like that for a reason sounds very like a 80's mix and love it, the weekend represents the energy the verse is the weekday works well, if this was higher in mix the song would be too produced if that makes sense its called experimentation guys
3) What's your opinion about Example's rap?
Great some people have made there mind up before listening, surely not a rap in a PSB song, its 2013 ffs go with it enjoy it its performed with aplomb and his voice goes well in the context of the song and N & C's voice its the Killer hook before the last chorus
4) What's your opinion about Example's singing (after the rap)
As above, and also PSB quality and class shines through example really is a small part but brilliant part to a fab pop song , and im no fan
5) Do you like Example taking part of this song or would you like Example was deleted on a single version of the track?
Keep him in! oh some people, Example is not as big as selling point as u would think he is not household name and look at his recent album and chart positions but he does a superb job
6) Do you think "Thursday" is one the best PSB tracks in 20 years?
Well its certainly a great track but with some many great songs in there canon, but yes, because its uptempo with being CAMP my personal bugbear with a minority of latter PSB tracks is the campness in his voice OTT and the sentiment and the bombastic dated production Thursday is cool, relevant , Neils voice never sounded better and has Chris! its modern but still PSB
7) Do you think "Thursday" could be very well appreciated by general public and having success if it has a good promotion?
Refer to answer about it being a single, the public have a pre conceived idea about PSB, electric will re invigorate lost fans but this track wont bring in many new fans

And please answer these questions:
1) Would you like this track was a single?.
I think there are better songs on the album for a single, but that's just me. The general public would probably think differently.
2) Would you like Neil could change his soft voice on the verses of this track to a proper voice in a similar way he sings the chorus?.
Definately yes.
3) What's your opinion about Example's rap?
It's the best part of the song.
4) What's your opinion about Example's singing (after the rap)?
That is also very good.
5) Do you like Example taking part of this song or would you like Example was deleted on a single version of the track?
Definately like him taking part of this song.
6) Do you think "Thursday" is one the best PSB tracks in 20 years?
No. There are many songs that are better.
7) Do you think "Thursday" could be very well appreciated by general public and having success if it has a good promotion?
I think it would do well commercially, but if everyone had my tastes, no, it wouldn't. Then again, any song done by the Pet Shop Boys that is released as a single is a good thing (except when they release songs like Leaving which was a very boring and bland song)

Re: Rating: "Thursday"
The hook is basically Chris. How f-ing cool is that?! And Example is very sugar hill gang. It sounded MASSIVE on Jo Whiley, how can anyone dislike it. Those strings, the pounding house piano, the one of four hooks, the great synth stabs under Chris that his chant accentuates...
Stunning!

Re: Rating: "Thursday"
It's between 9 and 9.5 for me! Great pop song.
What I hope for is the extended mix with those first 30 seconds played for at least 2 minutes somewhere in the song. That bassline, those string pads and those bells are just amazingly cool! I can listen to them on repeat. And also in extended version to have one time the chorus with just that killer synth riff, without Chris! What a version that would be!

Love this one ... only change for me is to increase the volume on the softly spoken parts a tad.
Came across some funny misheard lyrics online for this track:
http://www.lyricsfreak.com/p/pet+shop+b ... 61796.html
(Verse)
Would you love me Olive?
I hear a dream
Don’t say it’s over over over
Come on, don’t fight it
The time’s for the truth
Don’t say it’s over over over
I miss the meaning,
Express the feeling
It’s not over over over
You look unique to me
It speaks of intimacy
And start over over over
(Bridge)
Come on
Wind your lips
(Pre-Chorus)
Thursday, gram on Friday
It’s soon gonna be the weekend
Let’s start tonight baby
Stay with before the week ends
