Re: Rating: "Electric"
That's a pretty bold statement and one I can't really agree with you on. Quite honestly, there isn't one song on this album that would crack the top 20 tracks for me over the past 20 years...Miracles, Minimal, Flamboyant, Leaving, Liberation, Dreaming of the Queen, Luna Park, Home and Dry, Fugitive, King of Rome, The way It Used to Be...just to name a few that easily eclipse Thursday or anything else on electric. The more I listen to Thursday, the more it bothers me. It truly feels like it was written for and should be sung by an 18 year old flavor of the month female singer, not a 59 year old man.nickname wrote:Well, you can wait till the next week to listen to it on cd but maybe some of you could give your veredict right now. The album is on stream.
Thursday: The best PSB song in 20 years.
I wonder if people are rating this album so high as a backlash to the disappointment of Elysium. I can tell you I've played the album for a couple of pretty big PSB fans and all were less than enthusiastic about it. Some good, some rubbish, not even close to their classics.
Re: Rating: "Electric"
Well it's a persinal taste. There are many fans who rhink downtempo and sad songs are the best ones from the PSB

Well it's a personal taste. There are many fans who think downtempo and sad songs are the best ones from the PSB but I think most of them and casual buyers think PSB are much better uptempo songs.

As you say, personal taste. I truly prefer PSB's upbeat tracks over the slower tempo tracks...I just think that the album doesn't deliver great upbeat tracks. Sure, they've got energy and some great beats but that doesn't make them great songs.nickname wrote:Well it's a personal taste. Re: Rating: "Electric"
For example, for me songs like "Home and Dry, King of Rome, The way It Used to Be..." are really boring. It's not the kind of PSB sound I love and very far from their best tunes. "King or Rome", "Love is a Catastrophe", etc are the kind of songs some people suggest they have a hiden quality I can't see.bongsteve wrote:As you say, personal taste. I'm not saying lirically "Thursday" is amazing but its sound reminds the kind of sound from the "Imperial Phase" PSB became famous. The sound most of us fell in love with PSB.
Re: Rating: "Electric"
I think it would be boring if they kept trying to do what they did in the past. One of the reasons I love PSB so much is that they are always evolving and trying something new. The Way It Used To Be is one of the best songs they have ever done (IMO). I'm really glad they don't listen to you when they are making their music.nickname wrote:For example, for me songs like "Home and Dry, King of Rome, The way It Used to Be..." are really boring. I agree that I love the sound on Thursday, does remind me of classic PSB.nickname wrote:For example, for me songs like "Home and Dry, King of Rome, The way It Used to Be..." are really boring. Re: Rating: "Electric"
Not sure if this last comment was directed toward me or Nickname but in any case, I will agree completely with you on them trying and needing to evolve. Elysium was an evolution, some of which fell flat on some ears. Electric continues that evolution but also has some nods to the past which may or may not resonate with fans. My challenge with Electric is that the songs just aren't great (whether they are evolutionary or nods to the past) to my ears and I'm completely fine with others disagreeing. That's half the fun of having a good discussion board like this.boyjohn wrote:

It was towards Nickname, he seems to want them to keep doing It's a Sin over and over again.bongsteve wrote:Not sure if this last comment was directed toward me or Nickname but in any case, I will agree completely with you on them trying and needing to evolve. Re: Rating: "Electric"
can someone tell me what Chris or the voice is saying at the beginning of inside a dream ?
Re: Rating: "Electric"
I'm not sure if you realize "Electric" is the album of the coming back to their original sound of the "Imperial Phase" mixed with the dance music of the present. "Bolshy" (it could have been a track from "Introspective", the latin and balearic acid house from the late 80's, "Domino Dancing" - part 2), "Love is a bourgeois construct" (anthemic, uplifting with a big male choir on it, "Go West" - part 2), The last to die (an electric dance version of a big rock star song, "Always on my mind"/"WTTHNN" - part 2), "Thursday" (a pop song with similirities with "Westend Girls", "What have I done to deserve this?", "Paninaro", "Domino Dancing") and even "Vocal" (an updated version of "It's alright").boyjohn wrote: I think it would be boring if they kept trying to do what they did in the past. By the way, all these songs have been the ones more rated by the press and fans. Much more than the experimental tracks like "Fluoresecent", "Inside a dream" and "Shouting in the evening".
And I love PSB trying to go ahead I think to include "Example" raping on "Thursday" is amazing.
