Well it's not winning this poll as much as the vocal negativity in this forums might suggest.Drico One wrote:Was there even a need to include Winner in this poll?

"Hold on" and "Everything means something".
While I find the former as only expressionless track (yet somewhat acceptable by generic mood of the album), I can't help but think that the later is too much experimental for "Elysium". "One night" could have been a brilliant, gentle pre-finale before "Requiem".

"I think it’s an amazingly good album, I’ve got to be honest with you. It’s one of the albums I feel most proud of. But for people who don’t really know us, and have a sort of an idea about us, ‘Electric’ is more what the Pet Shop Boys are meant to be."

I don't understand the hate for 'Everything means something'. It's one of the strongest, most atmospheric tracks on the album for me.
Love comes quickly, but is a catastrophe and a bourgeois construct etc.

Same here, it's my fourth favourite on the album...CroMagnon wrote:I don't understand the hate for 'Everything means something'. It's one of the strongest, most atmospheric tracks on the album for me.

Well, I don't understand the hate for "Breathing space" and, well... "Winner". (Ok, ok... I see the reasons behind that hate but I didn't surrendered to them. It's still 7.5/10 song for me.)
"Everything means something" has strong atmosphere and production, indeed. In this regard, it's not weak link of the album (that's "Hold on", probably). But it isn't easiest to listen as well. It feels like it succeeds in crushing your peace of mind. For sure, "Elysium" is sound analogue of autumnal sunset, but that track is like gloomy, stormy pitch-black clouds on that skyscape which spoils it completely. In my personal case, it always leaves me strained and disturbed a bit, and therefore overshadows perception of first minute of marvelous "Requiem".

I might play Winner when no one else is around but really that should not have been on the album let alone the lead single. Ego Music is a cheap shot that just doesn't have the smarts to be on an album either. I quite like the instrumentals to these track though.
Re: The "Elysium" Survivor Challenge - Round 1
"Everything means something" is one of my favourites. Great melody and really moody. My worst are "Winner" and "Your early stuff".
Re: The "Elysium" Survivor Challenge - Round 1
Definitely "Ego Music" and "Hold On" for me.
If you've done nothing wrong, you've got nothing to fear
If you've something to hide, you shouldn't even be here!

"Winner" and "Hold on" closely followed by "Give it a go". I really love all the other tracks.
Winner, as someone else said, sounds like it was to capitalise on the Olympics - bit cheesy!

Hold On & Requiem without question.

Breathing Space takes one of the spots with ease. The second spot is a toss-up between Winner, Hold On and Everything Means Something. Voted for Winner.

Re: The "Elysium" Survivor Challenge - Round 1
Because of the way this forum is made, we have started with twelve tracks but the forum can only allow ten choices max. Had to leave two out for now and bring them in for Round 2. I think the majority of us agree that Leaving and Invisible has no chance of being voted out this early. It would be like It couldn't happen here and Kings Cross. No chance.
Can't leave out the obvious potential losers permanently. Some have put up a good argument for one reason or another against voting Winner out.
