The "Elysium" Survivor Challenge - Round 1

#1 Post by ZiggyPSB »

Credit to ahafan02 for the idea of the "Survivor Challenge".

I like the idea of the sort of "Weakest Link" type poll and I think now that an ample amount of time has past since Elysium was released, I thought just for fun we can continue the Survivor Challenge for Elysium. Who knows it might produce a surprise, like how Here beat Home and dry in the final round of the "Release" Survivor challenge.

Sadly twelve tracks and ten choices. The general consensus is Leaving and Invisible to be the biggest stand outs of the album, so they are excluded from the first poll and will be added to the second poll. The way through the woods was a Japanese exclusive bonus track so it won't be included at all.

If there's a two-way tie and three tracks get the most votes, all three will be eliminated.

Vote for two of your LEAST favourite tracks in the poll. Once you vote you can't change your mind. Two days to vote. Round 2 commences Monday.

Was there even a need to include Winner in this poll?

Ach, poor Winner. I have always liked the track, I still think the bit before the chorus 'It's been a long time....' is really good.

I voted to Winner and Ego music, despite when Winner came out I was raving about it and getting quite pissed off at others but since then times of changed. I can still listen to it, I don't hate it and I won't skip it, but in the space of a couple of months it went from most favourite of Elysium to least favourite. The charm of Ego music dropped even quicker.

Oh, it's got some nice moments, but really, when you compare it to, say, Love is a bourgeois construct, you know it's utterly unbecoming of them to release it as a lead single. It's just not "them".

Ditto.

I don't mind Winner in the context of the album, it was just never meant to be a single. I'm sure it wouldn't have been hated by so many fans if it was just left to sit quietly on the album, minding its own buisness rather than being forced to proclaim itself as the lead single. Poor Winner, kinda feel sorry for it now :)

Pretty much sums up how I see it as well. Winner isn't a bad song. It is a bad single. And a terrible lead single ;)
There's a really beautiful song inside of Winner  The one YouTube piano version of it is stunning. Try that with Ego music.

Yeah, there's something in that. If we could have hidden it away, chained it to a pipe in the attic, and fed it fish heads, nobody would have had to know.

Instead, they inflicted it on the world and embarrassed us. Oh, the shame!

Actually, I think Winner was just a cynical attempt at cashing in on the Olympics. That, as much as the track itself, was a bit off-putting - especially when they are capable of regular brilliance and integrity.

Winner is a killer track, litterally speaking. I mean, whatever happened to baby Firth of Forth?

The HappySad Mix of Winner is also fabulous. There's quite a lot to like about the track actually
