London second hand record stores with PSB CD singles?
London second hand record stores with PSB CD singles?
Hello,
Any hints for decent second hand record stores in London which are likely to have some of PSB's CD singles from the past 10-15 years in stock?
I recall there used to be one somewhere near Notting Hill, and one in/near Berwick St, but that has been some time and I'm not sure about their existence or location.
Thank you.

Take your pick:

No idea how well stocked on PSB they are and not all are second hand, but from experience Sister Ray, sounds of the universe and rat records are decent.

Just for the sake of it, make sure you're always frowning.
It shows the world that you've got substance and depth.

I was there in July. Rough Trade is mainly new stuff. Its also a bit out of the way compared to the Soho and Nottinghill stores.
MVE in Nottinghill had the 1997 Xmas fan club CD and some of the reissues in a case on the wall as you go up the stairs.
Sister Ray had a couple of vinyl singles, but not CD singles.
Overall, it was great to finally go into these places as I had heard good things about them, but there was nothing really there you could not find on EBAY much faster.

Every interesting stuff is online, stone shops are empty now, you should go there 10 or 20 years back, anyway i still like go there and check the stock, what if... (biggest surprise for me was lucky star in paris, like in old times)

Also visted a few of the stone vinyl stores in London a while back, thinking that it must be the wallhallah for rare vinyls etc, London being such a music city.
Well, the two used vinyl stores in my provincial town in the Netherlands had more of interest than all the London stores combined... most luck I had so far was with vinyl stores in Hamburg. Not even Berlin. Tried Sydney as well when I spent a few months there, hoping for rare Aussie only singles, but really, it was just all the same $1 albums and 12"es you find everywhere.
Indeed everything is online, Discogs is always cheaper, even with p&p included.
The vinyl hype is causing these stone record stores to ask ridiculous prices. A used album which would have cost $1-5 ten years ago does now sell (or at least have an asking price) of $15-20.

In Berlin there is one near the Oranienburger Tor U-Bahn if I remember correctly and in Hamburg a little shop in one of the Schanze's main roads. The latter looked like nothing but I got some inexpensive Duran vinyl bootlegs that sell for over $120 on discogs. I really don't remember the shops names.stormynight wrote: ↑Thu 11 Jan 2018, 2:14 pmWhich stores do you visited in Hamburg and Berlin ?oakey wrote: ↑Thu 11 Jan 2018, 1:17 pmAlso visted a few of the stone vinyl stores in London a while back, thinking that it must be the wallhallah for rare vinyls etc, London being such a music city.
