Did Neil go to school with Sting?

#1 Post by Docoboy »

I remember reading in an article that Neil went to school with Sting.

Does anyone know if that's true? I guess they're both from Newcastle, and about the same age....

They went to the same school (St Cuthbert's), but Sting is a couple of years older.

Didn't he do a song on the Noel Coward album a few years back when Neil asked him to contribute.

Yes, he did "I'll follow my secret heart". Nice song.

I always thought Sting could do a great cover of "Domino Dancing".

Jimmy Nail and Paul Gascoigne went to school with Neil too. Ant and Dec were below him so served as his 'fags'.

Is How Can You Expect To Be Taken Seriously about Sting?

On the PopArt DVD commentary Chris Heath whispers to Neil who he thinks the song is about, and Neil says "Yes". I presume he says "Sting" but, of course, you can't hear.

that line "you live within the law." I always did think sting lead a pretty clean life and trouble free as opposed to most stars in that field. and there was a time he was going on about the rainforest stuff so that fits in with the ecology line also.

Don't know for sure, however, the moment in the PopArt dvd suggests that Neil wrote it about one pop star in particular, and Sting is the only one I can think of for whom most of the lyrics fit.
