Cricket wife
My october symphony
Being boring
Wiedersehen
To face the truth
Closer to heaven (slow version)
King of Rome
I made my excuses and left
Always
Dreaming of the queen
The survivors
Run girl run
Only the wind
Love is a catastrophe
Hit and miss
Burning the heather
Fugitive
Leaving
Violence (Hacienda version)
Into thin air
Hoping for a miracle

"I want a dog" is also a sad song about loneliness. The Rent b-side version more than the Introspective version.

Regret is a form of sadness.

The Way It Used To Be.

The King of Rome is also wistfully sad. It has the perfect title if one knows Napoleonic History.

It Couldn't Happen Here.
Nothing beats it when I want to torment myself psychologically. I sometimes turn it off at half because I am sure I will start to cry as the orchestral sounds soar. I hate crying.
-----
Another one on par is Discoteca.

"I don't speak in anger
Though the chances that I've let
Pass me by and now regret
I can't forget
They're haunting me
Like a score of unpaid debts
Is it enough
To live in hope"

These lines simply sum up my life.
--------
Then, surely, Love is a Catastrophe.

"All my former dreams
Tender romantic schemes
Revealed as so naive
To think I could believe"

Another part of my life revealed by someone else.

------
This Must be The Place I waited Years to Leave, and Later tonight.

Another boarding school student here and just like Neil, he also knows how that feeling of loneliness, forlorn desoleteness, creeps up your belly and mind slowly amidst the dark hours of a silent night in the dormitory.

Honourable Mentions: King's Cross, Last to Die, The Way it Used To Be, and (I am not sure why), Brick England.

If they weren't so sublime (and of course, if it were not for Always on My Mind), I wouldn't be a ultra-big fan of them.

I Want To Wake Up hits me hard, especially the breakdown and final flourish. It's pretty desolate.

For me it's the bridge in E-mail:

There may be other temptations in your life
Don't want to add more complications to your life

I love that song and I love that part.

To Step Aside and Red Letter Day. The first about the sheer futility of life, the latter about the unbearable loneliness of unrequited love.

Despite the upbeat rhythms Bilingual is lyrically a very morose album.

There are quite a few sad ones, most, if not all are already listed here. I can't remember crying at any PSB song though with the exception of 'For all of us'. Why I cried, I don't actually know.
