Agree. I love Paninaro 95, but it's very sad. Especially this part as well.

Now you've gone, I'm all alone
My heart is broken and I don't wanna go home
You know it's all over, you're out of luck
You feel so low you wanna self-destruct
I needed you and you loved me too
but now I don't know what I'm gonna do
But life moves on, I'm talking history
and now I've got to find someone who'll dance with me
Don’t be scared, for only the dark can show you the stars

The Way It Used To Be.

I was there caught on Tenth Avenue
You elsewhere with Culver City blues
Then and there I knew that I'd lost you.

I still hear the pain in Neil's voice when he sings the last line.
Don’t be scared, for only the dark can show you the stars

I remember finding To Speak Is A Sin incredibly moving and sad when I first heard. It's both the subject matter and those chords .. seemingly heartwarming on the surface but utterly heartbreaking underneath. A prospect of romance standing within centimetres of you but forever out of reach and doomed to remain the stuff of fantasies.

Yes, the live version they performed for Before the Act at the Picadilly Theatre was very moving.

Your Funny Uncle", obviously.

As Drico said, sadness is what they do. That, and regret. Those few PSB songs where those qualities are missing, are the ones that do not work. "Pop Kids" is an excellent example of a song that is just someone reminiscing about the good old days until the line "I loved you" infuses the whole thing with sadness.

Honorable mentions: "Wiedersehen", "Birthday Boy", and "To speak is a Sin".
"Unprofessional? Us? Sir. Might I with due respect remind you that Mister Vandemar and myself burned down the City of Troy? We brought the Black Plague to Flanders. We have assassinated a dozen kings, five popes, half a hundred heroes and two accredited gods. Our last commission before this was the torturing to death of an entire monastery in sixteenth century Tuscany. We are utterly professional." - Mr Croup
