I'm not sure if that's going to work. Ronson's work is too much soul and r&b (the classical meaning of the term) for PSB.

When artists ran out of ideas in the 80s, they turned to Nile Rogers. When artists run out of ideas in the 21st century they turn to Mark Ronson.
is is and isnt isnt

If you have watched the video above you can see he can create good electronic tunes.leesmapman wrote: ↑Tue 20 Apr 2021, 12:55 pm I'm not sure if that's going to work. Ronson's work is too much soul and r&b (the classical meaning of the term) for PSB.

I know it sounds a bit sad but I think PSB are run out of ideas lately.tottenhammattspurs wrote: ↑Tue 20 Apr 2021, 1:05 pm When artists ran out of ideas in the 80s, they turned to Nile Rogers. When artists run out of ideas in the 21st century they turn to Mark Ronson.

Pet Shop Boys should work with Marius Lauber and let Roosevelt produce their next record. He's young, surely affordable, grew up with total confusion (associated with Kompakt) and he pretty much knows how to write and produce gorgeous electronic pop music. He plays multiple instruments, is good at songwriting, played in a band, worked as a DJ, is known for his remixes. He's perfect for PSB as he knows basically everything what's relevant for their sound. Best is that this approach would bring back some warmth to the sound of PSB that's been long missed imho. Last time Neil and Chris captured a somewhat warm sound in production terms Andrew Dawson was responsible for their songs. It suits them. Roosevelt suits them. It's actually so logic to approach Roosevelt that PSB clearly (and unfortunately) won't do so.

Bicep vs PSB ...
That could be good
That could be good
you could say conventional ... and I could claim intentional

On your recommendation I'm listening to Polydans. I'm assuming its the same Roosevelt - either way its a very good album album. Not sure how PSB it is but our tastes are in the same Venn diagram!
Cheers!

I appreciate everyone has their own tastes and differ in what they want from a PSB album.
I liked Release, mainly because, whilst it was different from their other work it had catchy songs on it but it did take some warming to. Elysium did absolutely nothing for me, was played once and has never made it out since again. I totally loved Electric, Super, Yes and Fundamental and everything upto Nightlife i love.
Hotspot, well, probably not a popular opinion on here is dire, i really can't like this album at all.
I'm a fan, a massive fan, and have spent a lot over the years but another album like Hotspot would seriously question me spending money on it.
I wouldn't want a producer that makes an album sound like they did "back in the day" but good, catchy pop songs will keep people interested

Would love to see a Bicep production or even a remix for PSB.
Bicep's buddy Hammer or Philip Lauer and Gerd Janson could be good as well.

David Jackson or Alan Dixon should produce some tracks and provide remixes. They need someone with flair who’s not afraid to take a track on an adventure, like they did on Introspective.

That would actually be my third choice after Roosevelt and Coma. Bicep's latest record is ace!

I really think that the idea of working with whatever producer is 'hot' for 15 minutes has been done to death on the remixes, most are ego trips and pretty poor. I'd rather they worked with a producer of repute with longevity. Giles Martin perhaps if they were thinking of another Elysium as I can't see the next album being "Banging and lasers" given each album tends to react against the one immediately before it. But certainly not Jeff Lynne, he's got one style, and everything sounds like ELO. Mark Ronson? No thanks, that would be Desperation City. Roy Thomas Baker would be interesting. Brian Eno or David Byrne would bring something very different.

I believe they did try and do something with Brian Eno, maybe spent a couple of days in the studio, but it didn't work out. I'm sure I read about that in a Literally. Maybe someone here could clarify that..
