April Fools' joke: New Electronic single Entre Nous and mini album FOuRTH
I just received a newsletter by Warner announcing the following:
E L E C T R O N I C return with new single E N T R E N O U S. New album F O u R T H arriving this summer
Bernard Sumner and Johnny Marr are happy to announce the comeback of their critically acclaimed side project E L E C T R O N I C with a new single ENTRE NOUS available on all streaming services from tomorrow, April 2. ENTRE NOUS is the first single off a new album entitled FOuRTH to be released in early summer this year via W A R N E R M U S I C U K.
FOuRTH was mainly recorded throughout summer last year after Neil Tennant off Pet Shop Boys had approached Sumner and Marr with a handful of demos he recorded between touring breaks from 2016 onwards. During an extended writing and recording sessions in Tennant's and Sumner's home studios, Chris Lowe, musical partner of Tennant and co-founder of the Pet Shop Boys, joined the trio help produce what turns out E L E C T R O N I C’s first all new material in more than 20 years.
In a new interview with the Melody Maker, Sumner argues that the return of E L E C T R O N I C was mostly Tennant’s idea. “It’s all Neil’s songs he felt needed a second voice”. Tennant adds: “They’re mostly dance songs written in the style of duets commenting on rather drastic events such as Brexit or the current pandemic and the imagined aftermath”. FOuRTH comprises eight new tracks with vocals by all group members including Lowe. “It’s what’s strikingly new to ELECTRONIC”, Marr tells, “we all sing as we all have our main bands with our own voice anyway”.
ENTRE NOUS was co-written by Sumner reflecting on the story of Brexit from an outside perspective of Britain. It features vocals from Sumner, Marr, and both Pet Shop Boys. A lyric video designed by long-time collaborator Peter Saville will premiere on the Melody Maker’s website coinciding with the release of the brand new track on all streaming services. A 12” vinyl release including an extended version of the single as well as additional remixes by Sumner and Pet Shop Boys will be up for pre-order later this month.

Speaking of defunct music magazines, I notice somebody has gone to the trouble of archiving old editions of Select, which was very PSB-friendly in the 1990s. I always thought Select and the aforementioned Melody Maker were more pro-PSB than the NME or Vox.

I’ve always found that they got quite a lot of respect from the NME through the years. If there was any criticism of them, it was maybe from some of the bands featured in the mag.
From 86-93 all their albums made it on to the NME’s Albums of the year Top 50

The NME has PSB and Liza Minnelli on the cover. I still have a few of thr best covers when I was forced to throw them out (88-93).PopKid78 wrote: ↑Fri 02 Apr 2021, 11:42 am I’ve always found that they got quite a lot of respect from the NME through the years. I’ll be honest, you had me. I think it was pretty clever in fairness. I liked the fact that you uppercased and spread out the word E L E C T R O N I C and the title seemed very believable.
I’ve read a lot of band press releases in my life and this was spot on. I was even looking forward to downloading the single.
Well done. But maybe don’t repeat it next year!
