Plus the single release was timed with their first tour in 1989 (the programme shared the cover art photos, if I recall). I always assumed the crowd noise in the single mix was a slight nod to the upcoming tour.

It's on the extended mix as well but in the very beginning but put even more to the forefront of the mix so that perhaps it cannot be regarded as an effect.
The extended mix is not on Further listening and I don't blame them, it's not very good.

I'm pretty sure there's audience cheering mixed in at the start of Where The Streets Have No Name/Can't Take My Eyes Off You.

Then again it could just be white noise; when you get to my age it's hard to tell the difference!

I also think it's a cheering audience, if that calms your ears. :D
A blues would be in B flat, pain defining wisdom,
but the soul is in the high hat, programmed in the system.

It's a Brechtian manifestation of the mechanical nature of performance, both the song and the meaning of the song - innit, bruv?

The common Internet person's constant inability to highlight two words they are curious about and their meaning when combined, then selecting "Search Google for 'innit, bruv'" from the menu that pops up in order to assist in the curiosity, will never ever cease to amaze me.

What would I Google to translate whatever "It's a Brechtian manifestation of the mechanical nature of performance, both the song and the meaning of the song - innit, bruv?" is meant to be saying.

Start with "Brechtian". Or "It's" if you're really struggling.

What a bunch of unpleasant people you are. You could've just politely explained what this slang expression means so that non native speakers of english can follow the discussion in a satisfactory way.
