Discovery 1994 - DVD/CD-Release

#1 Post by domino »

Pet Shop Boys announce the release on DVD and 2-CD of their “Discovery: Live in Rio 1994” concert, recorded towards the end of their 1994 tour of Singapore, Australia and Latin America. Release date is April 23rd. The DVD and CDs package is available for pre-order from today at the link below.

Previously only available on VHS, this is the first time that fans will be able to experience this classic concert on DVD and listen to the audio on CDs. The show was filmed by Brazilian director Roberto Berliner with a local TV crew in December 1994 in front of a wildly enthusiastic Rio audience on PSB’s first visit to Brazil. A new booklet is packaged with the DVD and CDs, featuring candid on-tour photographs, an interview by Chris Heath conducted during tour rehearsals and an exclusive on-tour diary by Neil Tennant.

“Discovery” was shot in 1994 as standard definition (SD) on tape. To keep the integrity of the original the decision was made to restore and present the concert in its native SD format on DVD, rather than upscaling to HD for Blu-ray.

A blues would be in B flat, pain defining wisdom,
but the soul is in the high hat, programmed in the system.

That's very exciting! As a teenage boy, struggling at times with being gay, I remember really enjoying watching the two male backing dancers... 😉

Especially Flavio 🤤

Finally Discovery on DVD, for those who never had Laserdisc players and always wanted a better quality than VHS!! :D
I also celebrate the decition to keep the original SD format and not trying to manipulate the image to give a fake HD look. Very Good!!

WOW! I don't know what the middle image means on this promotional image (maybe an unfolded 4..or 5... panels digipack)..but it's taken form their performance on the Argentinean TV show "Ritmo De La Noche"!! It will be really good (and surprising!) if they also include that footage on the release!! :D

Yeah agreed, I love the version of To Speak is a Sin, Chris’s simple piano part, love it. And finally, an official live version of Paninaro. Quite a few live ‘firsts’ here actually. But of course the crowd are the best crowd I’ve seen (on video) at a PSB concert, especially just before the last song, the crowd go mental and Chris films it on his camcorder. Such a great concert and to have it as a live album too is superb!

Anyone notice that the release date in the email & official site says 23rd April but the pre-order links say 30th April? Wonder which date is correct?
