canveyboy wrote: Thu 06 May 2021, 11:30 am Sounds very interesting. Can’t wait to hear it! So there is a common theme/tune/melody that is repeated throughout, in different forms. Would you say the tune is memorable? Do you remember it after listening to it? Are Neils vocals sung or spoken word?
I don't remember anything, except a sort of mediaval RPG theme. There is no distinctive melody nor memorable. IMHO.
As we know the lyrics were adapted to the music and not written for it. You can feel it while listening to it.

This sounds like the part of radio play. "A sort of theatre piece"

It reminds me Sparks radio play The Seduction of Ingmar Bergman.

It sounds like what you would expect to hear on The Most Incredible Thing.

Chorus, the most "chorus like" part is around 4 minutes.

Don't think of it as one song. But a mix of classical pieces joined together. The tempo changes, as does the instruments, suddenly, as if an abrupt transition to another song.

First listen to as I was not sure what to make of it. Its not a repetitive stomper, and its complex and moving, and it grows on you.

Interesting!

Was thinking this was a companion piece to 'The way through the woods' but sounds like it's a different beast altogether.

Now where is that postman?!

I have a similar feeling I had when I first heard „Legacy“ back in the day…only that „Legacy“ was more tangible or palpable for the lack of a better description- which kind of says a lot, I think :D

It‘s an interesting piece of music, though. Probably quite rewarding after a couple of listens. Just not a pop song or anything like that.

The opening stanza is beautiful. Really beautiful.

The rest feels a bit cumbersome and piled on. The libretto is quite arresting on its own, but other than the first bit, it doesn't feel like it hangs together.

But it is a very interesting listen.

It feels like it is part of something; perhaps an early sketch or concept for the theatrical piece they''ve done?

It is more TMIT than BP, but not really like either.

The first stanza on its own plays like a meditation on lockdown, even if it isn’t within the narrative context of the song.

Sounds interesting, I'm looking forward to it. Obviously despite ordering on March 1st, and usual order cancelled/reinstated fiasco I haven't had a dispatch email yet...

Fiasco - what a great album title that would be! I can hear Neil singing "it's a fiasco"

I finally got the mail it was dispatched.
