Question about the b-side of the Ab Fab 7"
Greetings,
According to both Discogs and the Pet Shop Boys Catalogue website, the 7" single of Absolutely Fabulous has the full 8 minute, 10 second version of "Absolutely Fabulous (Dull Soulless Dance Music Mix)".
I've never heard of one side of a 7" single having over 8 minutes of music, so I was a bit skeptical and thought I'd ask whether it's the full version or just an edit? And if it really does have the full track, did they change the speed to 33 RPM to accommodate the full track?
Thanks in advance!
Retro.

It definitely plays at 45rpm and is the mix itself. I’m not aware of any edit.
Just for the sake of it, make sure you're always frowning.

The song wasn't released on 7inch vinyl - only cd single and the wonderful "cassingle" format , remember them ?

The original plan was to put the "this wheels on fire" theme tune from Ab Fab on the flip side but Julie Driscoll nixed it I think. There are copies of that floating around too.

How does that work? The 7” 45rpm 8 min track that is? Is that even possible?
I remember the b-side (theme) being dropped, but not what replaced it on the 7”

Yes it is.Spittingcat wrote: ↑Sat 11 Jul 2020, 6:02 pm How does that work? The 7” 45rpm 8 min track that is? Is that even possible?
You can fit a lot more on a seven-inch single (more than 14 minutes of music here running at 33rpm):

But the audio quality drops significantly. The dull soulless dance mix already sounds harsh on 12" single, I can't imagine how it sounds on 7".

Well I have the 7” vinyl of it and played it this morning to check.

I take this opportunity to ask what you think about the Dull Soulless Dance Mix.
I never liked this remix. Quite boring, too repetitive. Rollo's one is head and shoulders above.
And I never managed to figure out what Joanna Lumley is saying in this sentence. Lyrics in the Very/FL booklet say "dull soulless dance music" but I don't hear "dance music" at the end. Something I would write down as "darvy" - I know this word doesn't exist but as english is not my native language, I cannot find what it is - does anyone have any idea ?

It’s ‘darling’
If I thought what you’d think I wouldn’t even be here.
