Merry Early Xmas! Stonewall Equality 1997 Show

#1 Post by verbow79 »

Looking forward to Hotspot next month, and wanted to provide an early Xmas present to help fill in the time gap!

I'm 100% confident these tracks won't see the light of day in any type of release, as 1997 was still pre-smart phone and unlikely a high quality soundboard mix exists anywhere.

Quality isn't obviously that great (and have to use your imagination to fill in the gaps) but Chris called this their "finest hour" and definitely shows the band while in their prime.

Special shout out to Sylvia Mason James for bringing her A-game to these cover songs from Sound of Music and Tom Jones!

Thanks, quality aside, at the least it satisfied the curiosity of what they could possibly sound like

Thanks for this! :)

Hearing this, It's Not Unusual could have been mixed with Se a vida e. :D

Thank you for posting these! You can imagine from these recordings what it would have been like.

Are there any photos from this concert?

Also, there is a recording of them doing a song called “Homosexuality” around the same time on YouTube, I think it’s from the same year (without looking it up)

Stonewall? Wasn't that this seedy dive where people went cruising? Why would the boys wanna be associated with that?

No, Stonewall is a charity for LGBTQ equality. They organised the concert.

That was 2000 at "Equality Rocks".

We periodically get b-sides albums from the boys, wish they would do the same with live stuff.

Thank you. I've never heard It's Unusual, sounds very much like a Bilingual era song, baseline is very similar to Single Bilingual.

The concert was held at the Royal Albert Hall - the complete opposite of a seedy dive in my book!

Good quality mp3's of this show seem to be similiar to the search for the holy grail, ie not likely to exist. The ones I posted at the beginning of this thread were obtained off Soulseek years ago, but haven't come across anyone with good quality sounding ones.

Did anyone actually get a chance to attend this show live back in '97?

I assume you're being wry here. Either that or you've unsubscribed your fandom after learning they frequent the Berghain.
