Record Store Day 2020

#1 Post by shaunsheep » Sat 27 Apr 2019, 1:09 pm

I was wondering if PSB were to release something for RSD next year what should they release
I would hope for a limited edition of RELENTLESS on 3 180gm vinyls in a box set or the same for INTROSPECTIVE.

For me it would be, in reverse order:

It couldn’t happen here soundtrack on vinyl, just because I love the artwork.

Format on triple vinyl in similar presentation to Alternative.

But I would love a Disco 5.2 12” single that had the MGMT remixes on one side & the Lady Gaga remixes on the other.

It’s more likely to be a version or remix of something from the new album on 12” or 7” in the generic x2 sleeve. Or even worse something from Musik.
However, given a free reign, I’d love to see some if not all of the Turing project or a coloured vinyl version of Introspective or Very. I’ve always wanted Please and Actually on white vinyl for some reason too.

This year would have given them a few options seeing as both Agenda and the Inner Sanctum dvd being released the day before RSD.

How about Agenda 12" on red vinyl?
Inner Sanctum 12" ep featuring selected tracks from the soundtrack?

I’m glad that Agenda and the DVD came out the day before. I hate RSD and everything associated with it. Pointless releases clogging up the pressing plants, Vastly overpriced vinyl, having to queue for several hours from stupid o clock to even stand a chance, only to find out the store only had 3 copies and they are now all sold and on eBay for ten times the price that they were on sale for. If Agenda EP has come out on RSD, 80% of us here either wouldn’t have a copy or would have paid £60 on eBay for one.

I was lucky to get Love Life 7” on RSD back
In 2010. I was unlucky with Florescent. Waited six months for Florescent to come down to a respectable price and bought it on eBay. It was £80 on eBay on RSD, it was £15 six months later.

LOVE this idea -

love a Disco 5.2 12” single that had the MGMT remixes on one side & the Lady Gaga remixes on the other.

These two mixes are their best. Such a shame Kids has never been released.

What IS the story with the Kids remix. MGMT didn't like it?

So much this. The sentiment behind RSD is admirable, but in practice it's a total shambles. Everything I have from RSD I bought 2nd hand from somewhere, not on day of, but felt I paid fair price for them, but even still, it's not showing my support for independent record stores that way. And I DO so want to support them - RSD just isn't the way to do it.

If any band really cared about these stores, they could perhaps stock only these stores with their product - exclusively - so you're forced to buy them from there, rather than a chain. Making limited presses of anything isn't the answer. If you stock your product at Amazon, yes you reach a wider audience, but you're not exactly doing "Rik's Records" on the high street any favours.

Record Scam Day. Bah.
Only vinyl re-releases, sometimes an audio tape. And no CDs.

You say this, but the indie record store I go to does excellent business the entire day, an dis very much a highlight of their year. It celebrates record stores and it is the choice of punters to involve themselves or not. I tend not, but simply go in there a week alter and buy the vinyl releases he still has on stock - this year I got:
Banarama - cruel summer
Beloved - your love takes me higher
New York City - I'm doing fine now.

So I'm all for it.

I can see why some are skeptical, but I enjoy the day. Meet new people, buy new vinyl. Got both PSB releases on the day and usually get a decent haul each year. Got yazoo, beloved, suede and saint etienne this year.

Yeah, if they're out in your country, otherwise you can get it for double or triple the price later that week.

If the new album comes out this autumn there MAY be an RSD release in April but if it's delayed til the Spring then no. I'm not wildly interested in PSB RSD releases but if they were to release something it would be nice to have Relentless or maybe some Alan
Turing demos.

something original, or at least changed in some way.
I'm not big on physical media, it's just inconvenience and clutter.
