Espen Kraft

#1 Post by rabagast »

I'd like to draw some attention to a fellow norwegian, Mr. Espen Kraft.

He host a very intreresting Youtube-channel focusing on synth gear from the eighties, and how to employ them in music production. He reviews old synths, samplers and drum machines, and heprograms and performs music using old school equipment and techniques. And to top it all of, the comment frequently points out the reseblence in his vocal style to Neil Tennant...

It's probably of good interest for the muso Pethead. Among the titles worth checking out:

Casio SK-1 - Is a full production possible with only this?
Emax Strings - Nothing has been proved
Why 80s pop music sounds so good / Learn to write music in the same way
80s synth-pop LIVE in the studio - Axel F vs. Pet Shop Boys vs. Howard Jones
Back to 1986 - channeling my inner Pet Shop Boys

Check it out!

The latest video is a cover of Eurythmics' Sexcrime. Some are saying it's in the style of PSB.

I think it's pretty good, and would like if PSB made new music like this to be honest.

Worth checking out his other videos and subscribing.
The Nothing Has Been Proved cover is still pretty impressive. https://youtu.be/YVzs37AJGI8?t=7

I discovered his videos from looking up overviews of retro keyboards. It's a pleasant surprise that he makes and covers full songs in addition to demonstrating the sounds of "those old machines".

The miss you bit, does sound a little bit like Chris de Burgh’s Missing you.

Thanks for the link. I need more cowbell!
Backing track quite good but the vocals and lyrics are weak. And the synth sounds sound too amateurish.
Difficult to emulate PSB apparently. It's like the sound of Ac/Dc, seemingly simple but no other band (apart from The Cult on the Electric album) have been able to recreate a similar sound.

Espen is delivering, Make that Call could be a B side from PSB no problem on Suburbia or any at 86/88
Props to him
