Appreciation Thread for HCYETBTS Album Version

In my view, this track gets way too much duff.

Either listeners feel the track doesn't fit in, or that the single mix is superior, or both. Or they don't care for new jack swing.

To me, though, this is ultra classico PSB. You get the biting social wit and commentary, which while still present in the single mix, puts a chill on the finger wagging. The sounds, the synth stabs, the sound and vocal manipulation. are glorious. There is a lot of Chris in this track. Neil's echo-y vocals float perfectly above. Did this even need a single mix? Isn't this a perfect single as is?

An intelligent aural feast. Perfect PSB.

I'm not sure it really matters what other people think to the track; if you love it, that's enough and no one else's opinion should change that.

I think it would have made a fantastic B-side, which is sort of what it became.

I'd still much rather have Miserablism on Behaviour, though I do like the enhanced relief it provides for when Only the wind begins.

Arguably the most dated sounding from Behaviour. I don't mind the album version, but oh boy...when the beat of the 12" Mix kicks in, it's eargasmic. Love that one.

Hello...

What is the original track listing for Behaviour with Miserablism?

Miserablism was to be where The End of the World is.

I have never thought of this track as a b-side.

Hello...

Thanks!
Nor have I but I guess with a Double A-side, one of them might be considered a B-side

I wonder, if Jealousy had been released as the third Behaviour single in early 1991 as planned, would Seriously have been the fourth?

I prefer this track for the album.

The single mix is fine, but too groovy for Behaviour. Best thing able the single is the video :)

I like the album version being a bit retro too.... suits

I've always liked the album version! Definitely single worthy in its own right. The video/single version is very good too, but nonetheless it's just a remix by someone else. However it should have been included on compilations and at least Further Listening.

I just love how the title of the song is as long as it is. They could have called it seriously. But that wouldn't have done it justice.

I would have liked to have had a Behaviour with BOTH Miserablism and The End of the World on it.

I prefer the single mix of HCYETBTS myself and I think it would have fitted into the aesthetic of the album better.

Of course, as it has been said numerous times elsewhere, musically (although not thematically) So Hard sticks out like a sore thumb on the album. An amazing track but, like the album version of HCYETBTS, it throws me out of the atmosphere the album cultivates elsewhere.

Maybe there is a case for Behaviour being re-ordered, with the more electric, aggressive tracks being on the A Side, giving way to the more reflective tracks on the B Side?

Anyone want to have a stab here or create a new thread to play around with the idea?

Another potential B-side title.
